Blowing 12v 30 amp fuse-Help - Montana Owners Club

When I am running the slides, in or out, I have just begun blowing one of the 30amp fuses on the 12v system The green 30 amp fuse in the power panel in the bathroom (3400RL). I have the unit connected to 30amp 120v power. The slides will continue to operate with the one fuse blown, but slower and the 12v lights are dim.

Where do I look? I have the slides lubricated so I am not experiencing an issue there, I do not believe.

So, any help will be appreciated.

Check for reverse polarity on your plug in at the park power supply.

The polarity is good on the post. Would that have an impact on the 12v 30 amp fuse?

Bob, I was having a problem with the slide stopping when closing, they fixed it at the service center, but I am not sure the fix. They replaced a sensor or a breaker. Call the service center, they are aware of this problem.

Yes, look at the 12 volt 30amp. fuses, the first two are marked 'Reversed polarity'

I believe the "fix" for this issue is to replace the 30 amps with 40 or 50 amp. Perhaps MIMF can correct me if I'm not remembering this stuff correctly.

Are your batteries hooked up? It shouldn't hit those fuses from the converter that hard, as the slides run direct from the batteries. (unless its a polarity problem like Ozz says).

Bob, try a call to the service center first to see if they have an idea for a fix. I have to disagree with Hamrad(sorry), do not go to a stronger fuse. The fuse is blowing for a reason and if the reason is not found, using a stronger fuse could eventually cause a fire.
Keep us posted as to what you find out.

The higher fuse is not my idea. It was passed on to us from MIMF. He indicated that with the Lippert setup it was safe to go up to a total of 100 amps if necessary. And you are correct. The fuse is blowing because there is too much resistance in the slides. Whether it is normal resistance or whether there is something wrong with the slides is to be determined. Obviously if something is wrong with the slides simply putting in a larger fuse will not fix the problem.

Bw2,

Check with the manufacturer or dealer to figure out what needs to be done. We installed two 50 amp fuses in our rig. We did that about three years ago. The slides work fine and we have not burned anything down. But you do what you think is best for you..... after all it is your rig and your life. Let us know if and when you get it fixed.

I think you guys are talking about two different things entirely.

HAMRAD - the new IOTA distribution systems are different than what came in your rig. If BW2 increases the 30A fuses in his IOTA panel, he risks burning out the charger on the converter or damaging the converter itself, possibly even the low voltage distribution panel.

MIMF was talking about replacing the factory 40A breaker on the slide motor power cable in the front compartment with parallel fuses. Not the same thing.

You are correct. I was talking about the slide motor fuses. I know nothing about the new IOTA distribution system.

Ok, tonite, if I can beat the freezing rain, and the 6" of snow, I am having the battery checked. Since the fuses are the 12v system fuses and reading the other posts, it may be possible the battery just gave up and I have a short or something in the battery.

I have checked the battery, all looks well and when I placed it on the charger the battery shows a full charge. Since we have now had 6" of snow, this has slowed me down on the next step of trouble locating.

we had the same thing with our 3295 and it had a 50amp fuse/breaker on it
i replaced the breaker and worked fine after that another thing to check (as funny as it sounds) is check the water in your battery

I had considered a weak battery, but don't think that is the problem, as he has stated the slide continues to operate after blowing one fuse. My thoughts are that those two polarity fuses are parallel, thus providing sufficient current capacity for the 55 amp converter. If this is correct, and the problem is the battery, it would blow the second fuse also. Just my thoughts.

one thing you can do is put an amp probe on the wires for slide pump and see what it draws it may be the pump is drawing too much current
