new 1st step sabilizer

another winter mod for the Monty. stair stabilizers. 1' tube with 3/4' bolt, nut and washer. hate the feeling of the soft 1st step on the rv . this should cure it. not the best weld job but still learning

This is such a universal problem I'm surprised it doesn't come up at the national Rally. Looks like a good fix, I finally just replaced the whole step set to fix ours.

Dick, it did come up at the Fall Rally this last year and my dear wife and I made it a point to both the gentleman that controls the OEM materials or items and the head of the Montana Division. The steps failed this last summer when Mary came out of the Monte to say goodbye to some of those leaving the Central Plains Rally. The bottom step twisted and rocked back and forth and it literally threw her out into the yard and she landed about 4-5 foot from steps breaking her right wrist. As a matter of fact Ron Ames made a video of HoboBob standing on the steps rocking back and forth showing the instability of that bottom step. We did have the supports that you can purchase at CW that adjust by screwing the platform up and down to support the step. It is very close to the design of those made by Happycampercoloroado except they have a plate on the top also. It's a long story and I won't go into the whole thing but Keystone has replace the steps three times now and the current ones a MUCH more sturdy than those that came on the unit.

While at the Factory Tour at the Rally we pointed out the inconsistency of the new aluminum steps they are now putting on the new units. The gentleman that does the ordering from the OEM providers of the steps could not believe the inconsistency of the steps from one unit to the next. He got on the phone while we were with him and he set up a meeting with the OEM provider to show them. We have checked the steps on all the new units at the local dealership and they definitely have improved on their stability so I guess our complaints have paid off.

I thought about adding a plate at the top but will give this setup a try first. If I need to it is a quick weld job to put another plate on.

Good job Dennis, could you add a pic sometime when they are installed? We have the 4 step unit and I am not exactly sure where these supports are to work.

Nice job Dennis ,If I could weld I would do the same but like Rondo said I just bought some at Camping World that work great and make a great difference..And DarMar they are adjustable and just go on the ground under the last step

I will place them under the left side and right side of the last step after we are set up. Tried them today and they really make that last step feel solid. They just set under the step and are not attached. Store in basement when we pack up to move
