Rv GripSilp ?????

Saw a new product to help stop the clunking at the hitch that goes on when stopping and starting. I might try it on my trip to Myrtle Beach next week, says it lasts 5 or 6 thousand miles Go to www.GripSlip.net to read and see how it works. It would be nice if someone would post their experiences with this.

I have the same pin box as the one in the movie, and mine has never reacted as the one displayed. it looks like the pin box has a slider attachment attached to the head. which I always thought that they were made to slide so the table can slide when needed. I do not have a sliding hitch mine is a Reese 16K non slider.

I eliminated most of that when I installed the MorRyde pin box but still have some clunks. I don't see from the video how it works but am interested in hearing others testimony's. Jim

I have the same hitch and a flexair pin box with a capture plate. Mine does not act like the hitch in the video. If you ask me I think they have loosened the nylon stop built into the hitch which will let the hitch slam fore and aft a lot. This would make for good video and sell lots of sandpaper...

If you had a B&W hitch that grips the pin tightly and a Mor/ryde pin box you would have none of that.

If you look at the video, it looks like the truck is parked and something is pushing the trailer front and back.

If that was what my trailer was doing, both the truck and trailer would belong to someone else.

OP here, I will try this on Thursday when we leave just out of curiosity. I do have a bit of clunking with the super glide and 5th airborne pin box on the start and stop, and let you know when we get back.

You didn't say you had a superglide in the first post. If you are getting clunking at stop and start, be sure you have the hitch adjusted before you spend any more money. All it takes is adjusting the front bolt and checking the nut on the cam roller. This is copied from the Superglide manual:

This adjustment will need to be made periodically. If you are experiencing a bump or “clunk” when starting or stopping,
or if the hitch is sliding up and down the way tubes when you are not hooked up to the trailer you can perform this
adjustment to reduce the noise and keep the hitch in the forward towing position when not trailering.
1. The Turntable Cam Arm Roller {C2} needs to be kept snug against the rear edge of the of the Cam Slot (see below).
2. To adjust, loosen the Jam Nut located on the Threaded Stop Assembly {E1}, under the Fifth Wheel Plate {A} (on the
side facing the cab of your truck).
3. Adjusting the Threaded Stop Assembly’s hex-shaped plate, will remove excessive play from between the Cam Slot
and the Turntable Cam Arm Roller.
4. Turn the hex-shaped plate of the Threaded Stop Assembly by hand, adjusting incrementally, until it is difficult to pull
the Turntable/Cam Arm Assembly by hand, into the angled Cam Slot. While holding the hex-shaped plate in place,
tighten the Jam Nut with a wrench.

I understand all this my hitch is adjusted properly. the play is in the closing jaw and base rail pin connections, no it`s not worn excessively, super glide has a slightly tighter jaw you can use but it makes hook up a bit of a PITA according to the ones that have used it. After heavy use I think hitches tend to loosen up a little so maybe this product addresses that instead of replacing parts that are worn but not worn out. I`ll see how this works.

Hi

Over the last 50 years I have operated 5th wheel hitched vehicles from 200,000 lbs to 15,000 lbs. If I ever hook up to a trailer and the hitch doesn’t have enough clearance to at least let me feel the “bump” in an abrupt stop or start there is something seriously wrong and I will not tow it.

I had a superglide for 8 years and never had the problem discussed...just keep it adjusted correctly...did not have problem with rail system wearing loose or sloppy...either....pins never wore loose ...

I've never heard so much as a peep from my hitch. Dead silent while hitching, towing and disconnecting. But then, it's an Andersen Ultimate hitch! They're silent by design.

I would not get this product before we leave tomorrow so I did the next best thing. Went to Lowes and bought a Skid Guard Tread for stairs. It is the same thing but not as durable I suspect and the grit looked like 60 grit sand paper the GripSlip material looks much coarser and a little thicker. So not wanting to wait I applied the anti skid tape to the hitch, hooked up the trailer and took it for a spin. Well all I can say is this works, no clunks not even a little when I did a few hard accelerations and a couple of semi panic stops. My Pin weight is 2180 lbs so it`s not real heavy. I`m sold. The fellow above dose have a point-there is substitute for experience.

We have never seen or heard of any bumping around like that. I would look around for other problems.

I would agree. I've been following this thread because while I don't have this hitch I was curious about what was really wrong.
