A/C inside Air Return

Had trouble with the AC freezing up on our '05 Mountaineer. Cleaned the filter and was going to remove the cover to check and make sure I wasn't drawing attic air back into the unit.
Two screws came out fine but the other four are stripped and won't come out. What do I do now??

Those are just threaded through thin sheet metal. I would pull down on the plastic cover and try to back out the screw (while forcing the cover down).
