Michigan has a recreational double R endorsement and it only allows for trailer to be towed as 5th wheel. the second trailer cant weight more than the first trailer empty. No toads allowed. max 75 Feet, tow truck must have a bigger capacity than both trailers combined.

As other have stated, each state has its own regulations on double towing. Most allow up to 65 total length (Except coastal states). I have a brother that double towed with a Keystone 5'er and paid a BIG price! As he traveled down I-80, he went over a very bumpy overpass that bounced his rig really hard. The pin box welds and support steel tore loose from the 5'er and nose of trailer landed in the bed of his truck and crushed the trailer nose and rear bed of truck at high speed. He was lucky to be able to control the rig and bring TV and both trailers to the side of the road - he did need an underwear change :-) . Long story short, the stress of the rear trailer 22' put too much strain on the paper thin Lippert pin box framing and it tore the very thin steel like it was paper. The 5'er was a total loss! Insurance would not pay for the trailer - only the truck damage. Lesson learned, do not double tow anything over 1000 lbs and or 300 lbs rear tongue weight. Keystone/ Lippert Frames are paper thin and just not made for double towing anything heavy.
