I have talked to a couple of woodworking friends and relatives that have wood planers and have them save the shavings that come from the machine. These make excellent fire starter and will burn 10 minutes on there own. I have also added a hand planer to the list of gadgets needed in the trailer and shave off some wood 1x4's to make wood shavings to stat the fire with as well.

I'm sorry but I have this visual picture in my mind of a very 'lean' inside to your coach 'after you've planed all the 1 bys' to get some wood shavings. (One way to lighten the structure so that the DW can add all the stuff she wants!)(Oops, hope mine doesn't see this - might give her some ideas )

Still owning a stick home and working on it constantly I normally have lots of scraps to chose from. But one bag of wood shavings will last me most of the summer.

The wood shavings are a great idea. As a Scoutmaster for about 12 years, we had our boys bring "Lint from the Dryer", in a plastic bag. A little goes a long way. ONE MATCH FIRES.
