Quality on 2005 2950 RK? - Montana Owners Club

I'm new to this particular forum, so hello all! DH & I have Jayco travel trailer now and we are looking at a 2005 Montana 2950 RK. Does anyone here have this model and, if so, can you tell me your opinion (good or bad)? It will help us make decision in buying. Thanks,

See you made it over. MOC'ers These folks asked the question over on RV net and I suggested they come over here and ask the question so lets give them some help. As far as quality goes quality is not job 1 in the RV industry but Montana is among the best and their customer support is far superior to most.

Montana is the best selling 5th wheel for the last five (or is it six?) years running. Best bang for the buck on the market.

Besides being a very good product for the bang, the service that I have undergone at the dealer, Holiday World South Houston, has been great. There may be some folks on here that can give you a lead to some good dealers on your area.

Hi Linda welcome to the MOC.

I dont have a 2950 RK but this is MY opuion (spelled wrong).

A rear kitchen to me seems that the china would be out of the cabinets on a good dip in the road. I had a trailer with a rear bedroom and closets with the clothes always on the cabinet floor when we arrived at our destination.

I believe that a center kitchen over the wheels seem to have less movement in the china closet.

Welcome! We have a 2006 2950, We love it, there is a lot of storage, we took it to Alaska this summer not one broken dish!
It's all what works for you! You can't go wrong with a Montana!

Linda welcome to the forum. We have a 3650RK and have never had a problem with the rear kitchen and I pull about 65 to 70 on the interstate and 55 to 60 on reg roads. just get it and enjoy it. bobby

Hi there,

We have a 3000rk and have had no problems with plates or glasses flying anywhere. I too have done speed limit driving and aside from the drawer below the fridge issue (it is notorious for coming open during transit) which was fixed really quickly. I have no complaints. We chose the RK as
it gives a feel of a residential kitchen set up.

Having said that ..any Montana would make a great choice.

we own a 2005 2950rk and except for a couple of minor problems, it has been a great unit. The rear kitchen has not been an issue. If you are traveling from spot to spot the only thing we have done is use non slip material you can buy in a roll at camping world or wal-mart and put them between your dishes just in case you hit a large bump they wont hit each other. The only real problem has been with the wireless heating system,which is being resolved by dometic. So good luck and enjoy your 2950

Welcome to MOC,
We have the 3650RK because it is a large kitchen. We live in Alaska and the roads are full of ice heaves and bumps. We have had no issues in this Montana with ANYTHING moving around - forward or aft of center. Our previous 5er (not a Montana) had a center kitchen and glasses were always in the wrong place when we stopped. Montana is a great choice for the money. Feel free to ask any and all questions.

Hi Linda,

We have a 2950RK which we bought in July of 05. We really love it! We have had a couple of problems. The most major was a leaking grey tank. That problem was solved by the dealer and Keystone when we got back North in 2006.

As far as the comment about the rear kitchen and the china, we have never lost a single piece nor have we had any of the doors pop open while travelling. We did have one of the drawers open while we were on the road, but bungie cords take care of that problem.

We can access the refrigerator while travelling which we really like.

We full time in ours and have since October 05. We will most likely trade up to a 3465SA eventually, but for right now the 2950 meets all of our needs. Just make sure that you do a very complete PDI before you take delivery.

We have the 2005 3295RK and LOVE IT! I also use the non-slip material between the dishes when traveling and have had no problems at all with anything falling out of the cupboards. On occasion we have had a drawer open, but that is an easy adjustment. In comparing units that are approx. the same price, Montana is far and above the rest of the pack we have seen.

We have an 03 and Debbie wouldn't have any other model. (thank goodness!)
We both love it. The only problem we have with it is, not enough time spent in it!

Hi Welcome to the MOC
Have a 3000RK, Wife loves it, if you like to cook the kitchen is great. No problem with the rear kitchen, Bungee one set the doors closed and put latch on lower cabnit below refrigiator.

We have a 2006 3000RK and we love it. In our first travels over bumpy roads and "topas" in Mexico, the kitchen cabinet doors would occasionally fly-open and disgorge the contents. There are many ways to prevent this with bungie cords and safety locks, etc.

We have a 2005 3295RK. We did have a fresh water hose connection cut loose behind the cabinet opposite the front door on our 3rd camping trip. Water started pouring out of the bottom a soaked a section of the carpet. It dried out OK. It was a hose clamp that obviously had not been made up properly. It took some dismantling and some tight fits with the hands to get it reconnected.

No real problems since then that I would not call normal wear and tear. We really love our rig.

I don't have the 2950 RK, but I do have a similar unit (307 RKD) in the Mountaineer line. We previously owned a Springdale with rear kitchen, and we have never had ANY problems with stuff falling out, breaking, etc due to the rear kitchen. Apparently years ago this must have been a problem with rear kitchens, but I think now it is bordering on an "old wives tale" because it keeps being repeated on these forums. The overwhelming responses (from people who actually own a newer rear kitchen model) indicate they have very few problems due to the design. I suspect driving habits and lousy roadways play more of a role than design flaws. For the money, I don't think you will find a better product than Montana. Good luck in your decision.
