We got big trouble(update 2)

Well I thought the roof problem was fixed, boy was I wrong. After a big deluge last night I decided to check the roof after the run from Omaha, and this is what I found.
It appears that the new wood to rubber cement did not hold and a piece sucked up and then bagged and tore off in the wind. As this second pic shows it also tore other smaller pieces off the leading edge.
I think this is severe enough to contact National Interstate for an insurance claim. It does not look like a repairable tear. I believe we need a new roof. It seems that there is a dark cloud over the rig this year. Luckily the weather for the rest of the week is just listed as cloudy.. DAMN!
(11 June 13)
The adjuster was here around 1700, his verdict,,,,NEW ROOF! However he said he can't get the paperwork in to National Interstate till at least Thursday morning because of all the weather related damage in this area. If I call the repair place before 0830 in the morning they can have the new roof membrane here by 1400 the same day. They say they can do it all in one day but it is best to count on 2 days. We are rapidly approaching the weekend and we will have to spend a couple nights in a motel so I am not sure how all this will work out. I doubt they will be working on it all weekend, plus the self leveling sealant needs a day to set up.. We will see.

(update 2)
Hopefully early tomorrow morning National Interstate will call with the go ahead for the new roof. As soon as I get the word I will grab my camera and will document the entire process for you all. It appears that they will remove all the roof stuff like ACs and vents then they will rip the old rubber off and overlay the entire roof with Luan Plywood because the new cement will NOT stick the new rubber to the old cement. So they just make a whole new substrate. This will also strengthen the roof a little (1/8 inch). Then they glue and stretch the new membrane over the whole (now smooth) roof and cut out the holes where the vents go. Then they reinstall all the junk they took off, and I will be watching that they put ALL the vents back.. I will start another thread with pics when that all starts. They say 2 days for the whole thing..

Even Eternabond wont help this, the rubber appears to be rotting, I grabbed the edge and a piece came off in my hand. Plus it would take around 4 rolls to even begin to patch it.. Also the rubber to wood cement didn't hold. While I was up there I shot a pic of the whole right side (curb side) along the curved drop to the side is bagging also, so the air got under more than the front of the roof, it has migrated down the sides.

Yes Doug, it does and I am going to approach that avenue also. In the morning I will be calling Keystone, National Interstate and Dicor in that order. Full replacement of roof for 5 yrs from purchase (we are at 6), then prorated from there. I am hoping NI will be able to take care of it faster. But everybody will be contacted.. because I REALLY DON'T WANT to stay in KC for 6 wks.. With the weather the way it is I need to get the rig under cover FAST..

So sorry, We've had a few problems along the way too (most recently a tire blow-out with accompanying damage) and it's never fun. When you start having your mail forwarded to RV dealerships 'cuz you're there so long, ya know there's a cloud. Good luck and be strong about getting someone else to pay for it - roofs aren't inexpensive, for sure!

I think Jimcol said that the other day, I didn't really think about it but yes it has been kind of a bad season for us. Kind of makes one think twice about continuing the lifestyle. Is it worth the aggravation?

I would rethink the Eternabond idea until you can have repairs made. I would go to Home Depot and pick up some heavy duty (thick) plastic or tarp, cut it to size and then use the Eternabond tape to attach it. Make sure you cut a big enough piece to reach a good section of roof to attach it. I think the tape will adhere to gel-coat as well. Good luck and I hope the weather holds up.

Appears like the membrane should have gone further under the cap; Photo seems to show it ending at the cap. Best hopes for a happy resolution!

Get a hunk of the rubber from a local roofing company and make a big patch for it until you can get it fixed good.
Are you guys here now?
Call Jim at Lifestyles RV, he is the service manager, he may have some. Over in Grain Valley Mo on I-70

Ozz, I already sent Life styles RV pics of damage and waiting for National Interstate to have the adjuster contact me. Robin at team Montana also got copies of pics. it appears that the wind got under the membrane and started to lift the entire right side of the rubber all along the break down the the side wall. I am pretty sure we are looking at a new roof..

That is heartbreaking.
I know you put so much work into getting it fixed yourself.
We wish you the best of luck getting it quickly and permanently fixed better than new. Please keep us all posted!
