Oregon Coast Campgrounds?
In August,we will be leaving the Olympic Peninsula and following the Oregon Coast on Highway 101 to California. Plan on taking about 3 weeks or so to enjoy it.
The state campgrounds look beautiful, but if its like Maine, they are already booked for the season. I did go look at a few of the state campground websites and they are booked up.
Need suggestions/recommendations on private campgrounds.
Thanks for your help,
Marge

We like the Premier RV Resort in Lincoln City (will be staying there in June again). It's a little tight, but it's a nice park.

Just north of Bandon OR is a large state park. We got in last summer without reservations. We also stayed in a KOA just south of Bandon, and a bit further south is a lighthouse with a small (but very beautiful) campground.
We use the Internet and our cell phones to book campground sites while we're underway. Having a Woodall's (now Good Sam's) campground guide is worth it. Yes, they're as big as telephone books, but they have just about every campground available from private, public, to club. If you know where you want to end up for the night you'll be able to find all the campgrounds in the area. To coin a phrase....let your fingers do the walking....

We stay in Oregon alot, there is a Casino (Chinook Winds)in Lincoln City that you can dry camp in their parking lot free, and they also have a regular RV campgound too. If you go further down Winchester Bay (Salmon Harbor) is a beautiful campground but you need reservations. In Gold Beach there are several places on the Rogue River (Kimball Creek RV) and even a place in town by the Rogue River you can see it from the bridge (Oceanside RV) It' a bit windy there. We have stayed in Premier and it is tight.

All of the Oregon State Parks hold back some sites for non-reservation types. But with a 3400, you may be too large for some of the open spots. Fort Stevens outside Astoria is a state park which should have spaces for you. South Beach at Newport is another. August is a busy time so I would try to get reservations. Non-state parks I recommend are Winchester Bay RV Park, aka Salmon Harbor (get one of the backin sites on the ocean side!) near Reedsport and the Mill Casino in Coos Bay.

Sand and Sea RV Park just north of Depot Bay. Three levels of campsites overlooking the ocean surf. Two bottom levels allow motorhomes bo back in with a view out the front of the surf. The top level allows trailers to back in so the view is out the back of the trailer. Awseome view. When the tide is in, it looks like the surf is about the come up to the trailer.
South Beach State Park, just south of Newport was nice too. 1/4 mile walk to the beach.

We spent all of last July along the Oregon coast. We stayed exclusively in state parks. We never had a single reservation made until early June. Now, that said, there were some that had no vacancies, and some we had to limit our time in to 4 or 5 days. Make your reservations NOW! We had no problem getting our 39 footer in sites at Harris Beach, Bullards Beach, South Beach, Ft Stevens, or Nehalem Bay, all state parks. Coming from Florida, that coast was awesome in summer! If we could afford it we'd be back EVERY July! Not this year, but maybe next...

We just.finished booking our 2 week Oregon coast trip for August. We managed to find a spot in all the RV parks except Oceanside in Coos Bay. (Too bad because it backs up to the beach and great tide pools. The list of parks include Sea and Sand, Mckinley's in Waldport, and Northlake in Lakeside. Charlston (Coos Bay) is having their annual Sea Food Festival on August 10th and 11th. Unfortunately, I am an Internet junkie so I like parks with wifi. Have a great trip!

Last year stayed at Oceanside RV Park in Charleston, Or (Coos Bay). Right on the beach (almost - just walk thru sand dunes for about 75 ft). This had the best beach I have seen west of the Rockies. NO SEAWEED at all!! Great sand.
Sea and Sand RV Park in Depoe Bay was just as described above. Very nice view of the water.
Also stayed at the Astoria/Warrenton KOA near Astoria. It is a very nice park, but rained when we were there.
