KOA West - Asheville, NC (Candler)

We made reservation at what we could find for Labor Day Weekend (2010). We followed the GPS and had to make a left hand turn into a cut-back drive-up. Not fun, but the 40ft'er and TOAD made it alright. I got a high five from the lady in the KOA Office when I told them I had to turn left into their driveway. He said, "You followed the GPS, didn't your?"

So, if you are inclined to use this stop, don't follow the GPS. If you are going past the TA Truck Stop, and it is on your left, you are going the wrong way. Use the TA Truck Stop area to turn around and go back under the I-40 overpass. At the stop sign turn right. Follow the KOA Signs. It will be an easy right hand turn into the driveway.

As for the CG, it is a little small, but the sites are fairly level, and nice amenities. Well shaded sites. They are crushed rock.

Saw a Montana pull in. I'll try to do some more recruiting.

Wayne,

Did you find RT 74 like I told you or did you go another way?

We talked to the Tenn. Hwy Patrol and the office I talked with advised against taking a MH up through Ducktown. After that the roads were better, but before that there were turns where only one wide/long vehicle at a time could traverse. They said that they had seen RV's with holes in the sides from being forced into the rocks.

So, we used Interstate 75/40. It was still a nice ride.

Thanks.

Glad you made it ok. There was a rock wall for a couple of miles but that was on the left with a lane between me and the wall. and the lake was on the right. I would not want to come the other direction. Have a good trip.

Thanks.

I'm thinking we should have taken our chances and gone that way. Oh well, next time.
