Medora, North Dakota

Medora campground, just outside Teodore Rosevelt NP. Trailer Life rating is about right and the town is a nice place. However, the railroad is alive and doing well there. It runs next to the campground and trains roll through many times at night. They don't just hit the whistle once, they hit it a lot as they pass buy! It will make you sit up in bed if you are sleeping!!!
It the trail and dust won't bother you, enjoy.

We love Medora and have stayed at the Medora campground several times but next time we will drive up the five miles to the the Teddy Roosevelt NP campground... We checked them out this year and there are several we could fit into... It is beautiful there.

Why is that RV Parks are often adjacent to the highway (noise) and next to train tracks (hooting of whistles). One time in Iowa we left the highway and traintracks and drove for miles. We both commented on how nice it was to leave the highway and tracks behind. We were delighted to be in the middle of cornfields and quiet only to find out once we were parked that the highway was at the back and the train tracks were on the side. Just part of RV-ing. We haven't been to Medora, but will keep it in mind for the future. Maybe you should do as I do -- wear ear plugs. LOL.

camper4, the reason the whistle is heard more than once is because by federal law you are required to blow that whistle two long one short and one long for every crossing. Making sure that the last whistle is sounded through the road crossing. This comes very annoying to the guys on the train also. Imagine how many times we here that on a 200 mile trip in a day. But its the safe way.

Just letting you all knwo why.

I have been living near the NS for 63 years. I remember the steam engines. The whistle doesn't wake me up it puts me to sleep.
