The nearest we could get was in Joliet, about 50 miles south of Chicago. Not the best but it was doable.....

We have stayed in Joliet several times and we stay at the Oasis RV Park at the Empress Casino. It is on Route 6 in Joliet. The sites are level, you pull in on concrete and you have a concrete patio. You get water and electric, but they do have a dump staion. The RV park is far enough away from the casino so you don't get the traffic from the casino.

There is a state park north of Chicago, right on Lake Michigan. I think they have water and electric sites. It has been a few years since we stayed there.

There is also an RV park in Marengo not too far from Chicago. We've looked it over, but haven't stayed there since we park in our daughter's driveway. There is also a small campground in Sycamore, IL which would be about and hour and a half from Chicago. Helen's suggestion would probably be the best.

Hi Ron & Rose,
We also stayed in Michigan City and took the train in. The campground at Michigan City is pretty nice...I would suggest you request staying in the newer section closer to the road. There is much more room between sites, although you will be out in the sun. The train takes about 55 minutes into the city and will let you off right at Millenium Park...very close to Michigan Avenue. If you would like more info, just let me know.

Illinois Beach State Park only has 30 amp sites. Water is available for filling your holding tank and there is a dump station when you leave. It is located in Zion about 30 miles north of Chicago.

Thanks to you all for the information. Last week I tried Michigan City and the State Park, but was unable to get the days we wanted.
Today we arrived at the KOA in Union, IL. We will b e taking the train in tomorrow to the City. Thanks to everyone for letting us know about the public transportation. This is a nice park and we met a couple on their fisrt trip in a their new Montana. After showing them a few things that their dealer did not (like the TV amp button) we all went out to dinner. I think they will be joining the MOC soon.
