You must have to use more than one piece of construction paper in order to cover the glass.....does it show when you tape two pieces together? Or do you get extra large construction paper?

Helen,
I am not sure I want to deal with that Minneapolis traffic. I think it is crazier than Chicago traffic. LOL!!! Guess I will just have to wait to the rally, gives me something to look forward to on the 2400 mile drive there. =) See you soon!

Marilyn ... I just used standard size (8-1/2 x 11) construction paper and taped the pieces together. I guess if one would go looking for it, one could see the seam, but otherwise it's not noticable.

Dave ... Helen is right ... you really wouldn't be able to see much in a photo of this project. Can you stand the anticipation of waiting to see all the cabinet windows?

I bought the extra large and then cut it down. I really wanted purple but couldn't find purple in a package by itself just in an assortment package. I'm going to try tape and if it doesn't hold, I'll try Carol's method with hot glue. I have a ton of sprakle hot glue I need to use up.

Vicki,
The anticipation is killing me already.... =) I might just have to stop somewhere along the way and buy some black construction paper. Might make a good evening project in those Wal*Mart parking lots... =)

Your right Vicki, it will probably not happen. I have so much more to do while driving the 2400 miles to Goshen.

I recommend you DON'T do it while driving, Dave. Need I explain???

It's hard to get the paper on straight from your position behind the wheel.

I got 3 pkgs.(5 sheets in each one) of poster board (14" X 22") at the dollar store and a can of flat black spray paint. After cutting the poster board to fit I sprayed them. They really look nice. The paint did not make them curl at all. I forgot about the two windows in the bedroom and don't have enough poster board to do them. I might try a different color for them. Lots of colors of spray paint---the possibilities are endless!

Great idea Marilyn. That way I could get the purple I wanted. I'll check our dollar store. I need to go get more Awesome anyway. How did you attach the poster board? And did you cut to fit just the glass?

Sue, I held a piece of newspaper to the backside of one glass and used my fingernail to trace around it and then just cut the "pattern" out. It's just a rectangle. After I cut the one out of cardboard I just used that piece as a pattern. 12 of the windows are the same, the other 3 are different and I think the 2 in the bedroom are different from any of the rest (more squatty than in the living room). When putting them up, on some I had to trim a tad off one side. I used clear packaging tape.....just one 2" piece on each side. As I was putting these up I thought if a person wanted to be really organized you could write on the white back side what was stored in that space. Might help if there was quite a bit of stuff in there instead of digging!

Just finished mine and I used felt, dark green and it looks good. The felt was easy to use and I just taped it like the paper. I bought it a walmart by the yard and it took almost 2 yrs to do all the windows in a 2005, 3400. The green matches my colors in the camper.

Great idea! What I'm wondering is are you all cutting to the size of the glass or a little more. There seems to be a different effect if the paper or material is right on the glass or on the wood which leaves it back from the glass about a quarter of an inch. Felt would maybe last longer and easier to cut and I know it comes in lots of colors.

Sue, I think you will see the patterns in the middle if you push what ever (fabric or paper) up to and touching the glass. In fact, I know you will. I had some in my first attempt, that did not quite touch and you could see a difference .

Thanks Carol. That is what I was trying to determine. My first attempt (which didn't stick) was to cut the paper to fit up against the glass. I'm going to try again - maybe with felt this time cause I like that idea and hot glue.

Sue, I pretty much cut my paper to fit, but, if it was a bit larger, that did not seem to matter, just helped me to fit it up against the glass. I wanted it to cover all the glass, and the way some of mine were hot glued in at the factory, I needed to come out and partially cover that hot glue. But, I did not cut overly large.

Used the scotch tape at first

Added the hot glue when I added the poster board for protection of my thin gold colored writing paper.
