Dexter brakes
This is one I haven't heard before. I had been getting a "Trailer wiring fault" message on my F350 and narrowed the problem down to the right rear wheel. After taking off the hub I found that, sure enough, the magnet wires had been severed. After taking a close look, it seems that the cam on the actuator arm is missing! I don't see how it could have come off and there were no bits or pieces in the hub so it seems like it was never there.
Anyone seen this before?

I don't know what you are looking for but the square thing between the shoes above the pivot is the thing that pushes on the forward shoe and the forward shoe pushes the rear shoe outward at the same time. It is not a "cam" type of operation.
oh now I see that you are missing the square thing on the top pictures.

I had the same exact issue on my camper same side. I called dexter and they sent me 4 brand new brake drums all the wa6 around. You can fix the broken wires in the drum as they will come apart again. Found out the hard way.

This past spring while doing my last bearing repack on our drums, I did the two road side wheels, no problem. Got the the curb side, and the rear brake was missing the adjuster screw mechanism, some springs, and a couple other small parts. Totally gone, ground up by the brakes, and never got any indication that there was any trouble with any of the brakes. In June, eliminated the drum brake issues by having the rig upgraded to discs. Stops much better with a whole lot fewer parts.

What he said. Get disc brakes and your brake issues will be over.

Add me to the list of disc brake 'lovers'. Had we not had them, would have T-boned a cell phoning young lady in Montpelier, VT that pulled out of a gas station or rear ended a panic stopping tractor trailer on I-81 which sent another 5er on an off road excursion.
