IRS still after me!

Got another phone call. Or should say answering machine did since I never answer unknown caller id numbers. IRS is still threatening to come get me if I don't call the number in the message. That is 3-4 times in the last year or so. I guess the scammers computer just doesn't give up. Of course they don't mention me by name since the computer just dials random numbers. A quick touch of the delete key, but still annoying.

And got one yesterday for my free medical alert device. Press one number to accept. Press another number to opt out. How convenient to provide a way to opt out. Only problem is they use that to verify it is a valid phone number and place it on phone number lists for sale to other scammers. Of well. Another touch of the delete key.

Being on the do not call list doesn't help with illegal scammers.

Getting lots of the calls on cell phone. The sad part is that lots of people fall for such stuff. John

I've added Truecaller to my cell phone. I've only had it about a month, but I haven't had an unwanted call in that time.

I do get a robo call once in a while on the cell, but probably no more than one a month. Not bad. But a local pool company's phone number is 596-xxxx and mine is 569-xxxx. I get 4-5 calls per week wanting pool service from people transposing numbers. No way to stop that.

Back in the day, when Pizza Hut just started delivery locations in Topeka they didn't want to pay for a special number so they got one just one number off of my home number. We started getting lots of calls right away. I talked to them about it and they said there was nothing they would do about it and made a point of telling me, short of changing my number there was nothing I could do about it. That made me mad, so I began to take the orders and promised delivery in 20 minutes or the whole order was free. The Pizza Hut manager called me up and told me to stop. I told him there was nothing he could do about it except change his number and so they did.

I've gotten that robo call from the IRS and another from some body saying I was being sued and to call this # immediately ...yeah, sure. But the one that takes the cake is the call trying to fix me up with a penile implant. My wife thought that was funny....until she got the same offer a few days later! Why don't these people get a real job?

Until recently I have not had one call to my cellphone from some one i didn't know. The past 2 weeks I have gotten hammered with robo calls. Each one that comes in I block. I am hoping that through attrician this will taper off. IRS calls, College, products, services. It's ridiculous. I am going to look into the a-fore-mentioned truecall app. Enough is enough!

There was a story in the paper this morning about these scams. They recommend reporting it to the tresury department as they do actually follow up on the reports and shut down the phone numbers. Doesn't stop it, but does disrupt their operations.

I am in the tax business and have about 350 clients. I would say at least half have called me telling me that they got this same IRS call. The DW has gotten two this year and I had one the other day. But let me tell you that call scares the crap out of some of my clients. About every 6 mouths I send a letter to all my clients telling them about this scam.

But here is a real scary scam just reported to me by the IRS. The scam is targeted to the tax pro. It's an email made to look like an update to your tax program. Once opened the scammer can axcess your list of clients with all their information. The company we buy our program from has setup a three tier login to use when updating our tax program. Makes me wonder how turbo tax will handle this.

The IRS, Turbotax, and all the other tax preparation software companies better come up with something really secure pretty soon, or we will all have to start doing our taxes, printing them off, and sending them in by mail, and I'm pretty sure the IRS doesn't have anywhere close to enough employees to handle that. A tax guy that I used to have do our taxes before I started using Turbotax, would suggest refusing the e-file option, just because he knew how dangerous this had become.
