Level Up system

My 2016 Montana has the Level Up automatic leveling system. I am having two consistent problems with its operation:

1. When connecting the trailer to the truck after camping, you are supposed to be able to push the right and left buttons simultaneously and the trailer will return to the same height
it was when you took the trailer off the truck. Whenever I do this, I get a message that this feature is not working or some kind of error message. I then have to go to Manual Mode to connect the trailer. I can do this, but I am worried that I may be harming the jacks. What am I doing wrong?

2. After I get the trailer off the truck, I push the auto level button and the system levels the trailer. This works fine, but we find that the trailer is not 100 percent level. Is there another step that I am missing?

On the re-connect to the truck feature (1), if you do any manual leveling after the auto-level step, the feature will give the error message. I can't remember if there is any ranges of angles where you started that it won't return to.

It sounds like you may need to re-cal your auto-level feature if it isn't getting it to within a few tenths of a percent level. When you say it isn't 100% level, how much off are you meaning and how are you determining it?

For the auto retract you need to start with the front high for this to work.

Agree you may have to reset your level point, if your dealer set it depends what they set as level. The frame, floor, counter top or whatever.

Specific instructions in the lippert manual for level reset. Using an old fashioned level, get your fiver level to your satisfaction, then do the reset. I have found that on ours, the 0 readings at the controller not exact when I check with a level, but pretty close.

If you readjusted to get level after you unhitched that's probably your problem on rehitching. For us that feature isn't used because I unhitch higher than I want to hitch up so we always do it manually. Before you set your 0 again, use your level all over your rig. Spots very on ours so we chose the spot that allowed us to feel level everywhere.

Ours seems to be off "slightly", based on the door to the bathroom. But, it all depends on where you measure it. If you go to Lippert's site, they have the re-setting instructions there also.

Here is a link to the PDF for the level up system: http://www.lci1.com/assets/content/s...ers_Manual.pdf. Page 8 tells how to rest Zero Point.

Do all of the above. I prefer to use as a minimum a 36" level to manually level and then recalibrate the system. Have only had to do mine in almost 5 years.

If you do this you shouldn't have to manually adjust any more after auto level and the unit will then return to hitch level as you want.

Most of the time I prefer to do a manual level...just seems to give me a better level with less extension on all the rams. The auto return feature I used once and decided it was more marketing than useful. My opinions... john

The return to hitch height feature will only raise it to the height that it was last set. It will not lower it, this must be done manually. This is a safety precaution that is programmed into it in an effort to eliminate lowering by accident as it was explained to me at the rally by the tech.

Mine has been at the dealer 3 time plus when we picked it up on the walk through and it did not work. Took it in last Tuesday and as of 3 today they still can't figure it out. Worked one time out on our third time. Not sure if the Lippert electric system was the way to go. If under warranty take it back in.

Guess we are lucky, ours has been pretty much trouble free once I learned the front needs to be raised higher than the rear for the auto level to work.

Yes yes do the reset to achieve a good auto level.
In preparation for hooking up I have taken to the practice of manually retracting the rear jacks then turn the controller off and on and then use the left-right buttons to return to hitch height. I can't take credit for that sequence but saw it done and it works pretty well for me.
I have seen the error you mentioned but only after doing manual adjustments after the auto-level activation.

If I am connecting the truck to the camper and the return to previous height gives me an error message and doesn't work, what is the correct way to manually get the trailer on the truck? Do I lower the front onto the truck before I retract the middle and back jacks? Does this put too much strain on the middle and back jacks?

looking forward to opinions on this. I have been raising the front, hitching, and then retracting the rear legs.

In order to get the Rv off the truck hitch the front of the RV will be higher than the rear. After removing the truck we autolevel. The return to the unhook height has always worked as long as we stay in auto level mode if you go into manual mode at anytime you will lose that setting.

The auto level function has always worked perfectly for us since new in 2013. We raise the RV off the hitch, move the truck forward, hit auto level and watch. When hooking we hit both function at the same time , the RV returns to the unhook level, we line up the truck and hitch, then retract all in auto level mode, has always worked. You do need to check the distance the legs need to retract when leveling to avoid a "out of stroke " msg.Once you go to manual to deal with that you have wiped out the return to unhook height function. You still need to use blocks or boards to get the RV somewhat level and the distance the legs need to travel before auto level to avoid the "out of stroke " msg. The message marketing sends is that we can just pull into a spot hit auto level and it will level....not so.The Rv need to be comparatively level before we do the auto level.

The rams all work in unison...as a system. So when you raise the front with backs down...you are doing exactly what the system will do during an auto sequence. The total supporting weight of all the rams is way more than what the monte is...so have no fear, you won't overload them. And the safest way to reconnect is to have the skid on the pin box push down the rear of the truck as you back into the pin box. If you lower the pin into the hitch, you are in dangerland. John

I have a Blue Ox Bedsaver so when I unhook, I raise the trailer high enough to clear the bedsaver when I pull the truck out from under. Consequently, when hooking up and return to unhook height, it is too high. Have to retract so the pin just touches the bedsaver and it hooks perfectly. Also, what John says X2.

If the return to hitch height feature is not working and all my jacks are down, what is the proper way to manually get the trailer on the truck without harming the jacks? Do I lower the front jacks until I get the truck connected and then manually retract the middle and back jacks?
