Slide Seals

I have a 2014 Montana 3850FL, The slide seals on,top, are a single bulb with a wiper. Upon inspection the bulb have completely turn to putty like tar almost and split on top from the sun most likely. Has anyone else seen this?? Is this defective?

Going to replace, I can see a screw on,each side. How are they attached ? Looking for new ones, I see adhesive is used, is this the norm? Anyone recommend who I should purchase from?

Thanks

This is not uncommon. My 2012 has gone through this with a couple of the upper seals. On mine, there are 2 screws at the ends holding it on. Th rest of the seal has a 3M like glue strip along the top edge. Undo the screws (watch how that seal interacts with the vertical ones) then peal the rest of the seal off.

Clean up the glue line on the RV with a putty knife. Apply the new seal, pealing off a short section of the protective paper tape as you place the glue portion on the track. This is very similar to how you install Eternabond tape. Cut the ends to fit with the vertical strips and re-install the screws.

I cut off a short piece (that was still intact) and took it to the dealer so they could order the correct replacement. There are a bunch of sizes and types to choose from. I wanted them to be the ones who specified the replacement.

Tiara RV will supply them (a Trekwood supplier). Using our '14 HC as an example, the seals are two pieces. The top seal is a slide on bulb seal that needs to be removed first(there are two types - straight and slanted) and is probably still good - screw at each end inside the bulb. Under that is a wiper seal which is held in place by several screws and two sided tape. Pull the screws and rip ithe gooy remnants off. There are two sizes of wiper seal - 2" and 2-5/8". You measure the exposed part for the size, not the overall dimension though the longer one will work I found. A note here - the 2" wiper isactually 2-5/8 wide while the 2-5/8 is 3-1/4 (yeah, confusing). Price (May 2019) - 2" is $7.10 per foot, the 2-5/8 is $6.90/foot. I ordered 8 feet but they sent a fair amount of extra length.

Easy one hour job for the first one, 20 for any others (that ol' learning curve)

Yes, that bulb seal is easy. Just make sure that what you have is what I described. There are many different types. Use Trekwood** as your info source whether you buy from them or a local dealer. As lomg as you are doing the job, I would replace that wiper as well as it can turn to goo, I found, virtually overnight.
