Agreed. Unfortunately when I bought the tt it was on a whim when the hotel I was staying in couldn’t clean the room from the last person to stay there. As for the truck I bought a 3/4 Chevy gasser first and found out that 5.5 mpg pulling wasn’t that good. 6 months later I bought the powerstroke. Still more than happy with it. It was just time to upgrade the camper and I found a deal, wasn’t actually planning on buying that day but, numbers were good. I’m sure that’s how it will go for upgrading the truck.

I should probably have a dually for our 16k+ 3811 but I use my truck every day when working at home.

I am constantly in and out of very narrow driveways picking up and delivering boats and snowmobiles and don't want to deal with banged up and scratched fenders on a dually, or the wheelbase.
I will however be getting a 3500 SRW 6.5' bed next time.

Another thing I don't understand is why sooo many people buy a 3/4 ton truck when a 1 ton is say, only 1k more. Buy the time you add air bags/springs/timbrens or what ever, you could have saved all the time/effort and $$ and gotten a truck with enough payload capacity from the factory for beans more.

I know a lot of people don't like duallies for various reasons, will not fit in their garage/hard to park at the mall etc. but once you tow with one, you will more that likely kick yourself is the a-- for not doing it sooner.
One of the main reasons the manufacturers do this is because in some northern states there is a 10,000 pound rule for vehicle registration. Vehicles over that are charged MUCH higher rates than the ones at 10k and below. PLUS, a few of those states have it to where an F450 is a commercial vehicle no matter if it is privately owned and must have commercial tags. They must also carry commercial insurance. By making the slightest change in the truck, it enables all the Big # to get by these states so as not to have the customer penalized for owning a "3/4" ton truck that will do most everything a "1 ton" will do. It's purely a numbers game.

It's no coincidence that Ford, Ram, and Chevy 3/4 tons are all rated at 10,000lbs

Ye,a but in my home state you can register your truck at any weight you want. Makes no sense. I no its not right, but my dually was registered straight from the dealer at 7k lbs. It weighs around 8500lbs empty. Its GVWR is 13025 lbs

Well for New York just about all Pick-ups have Commercial Tags and for Registration they go by the OEM Mfr's numbers. My '11 Dually was reg's for it's GVWR of 13K, when we switch to Florida Tags I had it Reg'd for 14,999, was going for 15K but the Clerk said I could save money at 14,999.

Here we get off topic again attacking people that doesn’t drive or want a 3500 “dually”. We were just wanting to see and compare FW weights please.

Nobody’s really posting their weights so, we had to have something to talk about.

Wondering why the 2 that had the complete weight tickets were heavy on passenger side (ODS or Starboard what ever you choose)!
Is this a norm for our Montana’s
I haven’t had the opportunity to have a 4 corner weight in.
I was guessing my drivers side would be heavy due to kitchen slide, pantry vanity and under bed storage all on that side.
I realize when all 6 slides are in it some what centers but not much weight on passengers side.

We have a 2017 3160RL Legacy with 2017 F350 CCLB. One thing we noticed was moving the BW hitch 2 inches to the front location added 300 pounds to the front wheels. That rides better, and shared some of the pin weight with the rear axle. Just a little more tricky hooking up whenever the truck is not straight as the tailgate could get into the trailer if you don’t watch it. We were loaded for a good long trip when I took the 6/2017 measurement. The later measurement had the trailer lightly loaded and the hitch in the rear position. That is 1 inch in front of the axle.

Jamesb, I assume you are talking about me with that comment. I assure you I mean no harm what so ever. But to me the most important part of knowing what your set up weighs is to determine if your gig/truck is over weight and within the legal limits (which a lot are not). Otherwise, what's the point in weighing in at all. Comparing weights of different trucks and campers is like comparing how much of a tax return people get. There is no point.

If I posted the weights of my rig that were WAY over weight, I would welcome the fact that some one pointed that out to me (maybe I am new to towing and just do not know)

Its great to see that at least some care what their rig weighs and that they have the correct equipment to tow it.

There are many, many people that just go buy a truck and or trailer paying absolutely no attention to there weights.

On what are you over weight? With any 3500 dually pulling a Montana you should be well within the limits. I have experience with a GM dually, well inside the limits on truck axle and combined. A GM 3500 SRW was marginal, thus my reason in going with the DRW.

The ONLY differences between a3/4 vs 1 ton is the rear springs. However, the 3/4 ton will give a softer ride. Now, Dually vs 3/4 ton is not just springs. As far as weighing goes, you're just being sure you're within manufacture specs.. Our 3610 is 12200 empty and 13000 loaded. We have the Ultra Rare Longhorn 3500 Dually, 4:10, Aisin, auto rearlevel truck with nearly 6000 lbs of payload and 30,000 plus tow capacity and a 14000 lb. gvwr..

We bought our truck just after hurricane Harvey last year. Ended up in New Braunfels, Tx where they had 5 with the stuff I wanted on ours. No other dealer within 500 miles had what I was looking for. On our Extremely Ultra Rare Limited 3500 dully, some of the paperwork says Longhorn but the sticker says Limited. Strange!

I think the only difference in the Longhorn and limited is the Longhorns are a western theme. Only option we don’t have is the heated rear glass. I have never seen a limited..

We also purchased our RAM in New Braunfels - Bluebonnet Ram dealer. The truck had EVERYTHING on it and they made us a great deal.

That isn’t true. I can get the same price off the lot or ordering. You can get a better price on the lot if it’s last year’s model or something nobody wonts. The dealer has an incentive to order special. It doesn’t come off of their allotment. Ford dealers can’t order all the trucks they wont to. There is a formula Ford goes by, how many you ordered last month, year how many are on your lot and I’m sure other factors. When it gets built is even more complicated. You would think a special order would move the front of the line, nope. It has to do with the priority the dealer puts on it, how many the dealer can order and lots of other factors. The way I understand it a dealer will make about $2000 on a $50,000 vehicle they sell at invoice. They have hold back, interest, advertisement, that Ford pays for and several more things.

The incentives for Dealers to better negotiate off their stock is because they are paying interest on the in stock vehicles..The longer on the lot the more it costs them..

We were in a bit of a rush to find ours since so much inventory was being shipped to the coast due to Harvey and we had made our decision on the 3791RD. Joy thought we could haul it with our '09 F250 4x4 diesel. I was not going to let that happen. right now we are at a few hundred over 15,000# and I'm sure the pin is over the 3,050 that it was on Dec. 11th. When we hunted, we had to have adjustable pedals since Joy is 5 foot. The only way to find if these trucks have them is to look at about pix #9 online to see the rocker switch on the steering column. They are not listed on the window sticker.

DFB, I wanted the western theme but Joy, for some reason did not like it. I had to go out and look but our Limited does have the rear window heater and and "the kitchen sink" hahaha! We had made a great deal, got $19k for our '09 w/160k miles but then they came back to tell us that the internet discount was wrong - $9k instead of $13k. We walked but called back later and agreed on $20k for our truck. Went back and signed the papers on September 8th last year. We got our 3791 Oct. 31 for $58k - the dealer 3 miles from us needed to make Oct. quota.
