Just asked the same question last week!! If you look up underneath the valence, you will find two or three "standard" square drive screws holding the valence to either an overhead shelf or a ""L" bracket which is mounted on the vertical wall. You will need a longish handled screw driver to get at them. Only a few min job.
As an aside, we removed the valences from the bedroom windows and added curtain rods for both a new valence and curtains and redecorated the headboard so they match. Lots of folks (us included) got rid of those side curtains on all the windows. They are a pain in the tail when lowering or raising the blinds..
