Lost Hydraulic Fluid

2018 Montana 3811MS
At our destination realized doorside slide was out approximately 4" at bottom.
Setup with jacks down and level. Ran bedroom slide out OK. Door side slide started out OK and then I reversed to check that it would retract fully. Heard fluid sounds and wife spotted fluid draining through refrigerator low point drain hole. Stopped retract and proceeded to fully extend DS and ODS slides.

Assumption is the retract line for the slides is compromised (fitting or line). Hydraulic reservoir is empty. Jacks are down and slides are out. I need to get the unit to dealer for warranty repair (they do not have mobile repair service).

I have reviewed all the hydraulic threads and read all the Lippert manuals. I do understand the "Manuel" operation of the pump and the solenoids but this still requires fluid in the lines. I assume I can get jacks up without losing more fluid from the slide retract line.

How can I retract the slides without using the hydraulic system? Dealer and Keystone say use the crank. I have not seen any place to use a crank.

I have not, nor intend to pull the bottom coraplast to get into this.

Ideas?

Use your hydraulic switches outside in your lippert control panel.so you only operate one at a time. Bedroom slide I believe is electric, it won't count.

Try running slides in one at a time. While one operates the switch, have 1 or more people push on the slide to try to close it. do this one at a time.

Good luck

What Jeffba said plus I would have a large supply of transmission fluid handy and someone watching the reservoir so it doesn't go empty.

Both the Dealer and Keystone should know there is NO manual crank on the hyd slide out system.

You have got to refill reservoir to be able to close the hyd slideouts. Either AW32 or transmission fluid depending on what you had in the system.

Here is your main concern... with a leaking retract line or fitting you will gradually LOOSE hyd pressure on the slideout that is leaking

That is why your slideout was extended at the bottom when you arrived at last destination.... there was no hyd pressure on retract side to hold it closed.

Jim, give Lippert/LCI Customer Service a call and talk to them. The posts above are correct but they will give you info that we may not know to do. You might ask them which fluid to use since some units have hydraulic fluid in them and some have the ATF in them. If you mix them it is not good at all. Good luck and let us know what you come up with and what your dealer has to say.

What Jeffba and Carl said.

Spoke w/ Lipper CS to review my plan.
- Isolate DS slide w/ control on Levelup panel
- Add ATF to reservoir
- Retract ODS / Monitor reservoir
- Retract leveling jacks / Monitor reservoir
- Hookup to Truck / retract Landing jacks / Monitor reservoir
- Activate DS slide / retract w/ helping hands / bucket to catch fluid (waste - not to reuse) / Monitor reservoir
- Use slide locks to hold slide in place (hope Camping World has some to loan)

Plan to wait until Monday for all this. Need to get organized to be out of Monty. Will be contacting GS roadside to provide help and hands.

Thanks for all the input. Will do follow-up after I get it to CW and have diagnosis.

Slide Maintenance

This brings up a concern I've had. Is there a recommendation for inspection or scheduled maintenance on the slides? I have 5 of them on my 3820Fk. There's nothing in the owners manual.

I had a similar problem. Yu have a leak and whether you or someone else does it you will eventually have to remove the coraplast and repair it. Rats got into my underbelly and chewed through one of my hydraulic lines.

allen, I have read when Monty is in storage, the slides should be activated (don't know how often) to keep seals & such working properly. My 5er is in the back yard, easy enough to operate slides occasionally, clean up crud & spider webs.
