slide outside rubber seals

Has anyone had problems with the outside seals on the slides not folding out when the slides are extended? If you have how did you fix the problem?

Yep. Had that problem with the '05 on occasion and now with the '13. I ran the metal awning opener up the seal from bottom to top to help it roll out. When I picked up the '13, I asked for one and they looked at me funny as it has an electric awning. Told him what I needed it for and he found me one. I don't need it all the time but on occasion. That is one of my after-setup chores to check that they are all out. I would not want rain water leaking in.

Had that with previous rig and with the new one, I carry a cattle show stick to run up the seals, it's about 5 ft long and just right to reach to the top of the seals. I have got to get some of that best quality (very dry & don't collect dirt) silicone spray to dress the seals, but don't know which brand.

I do exactly what Bullroc3 does, keep the awning stick (extendable) in the convenience center. Seems the better you take of your seal the worse they are for this. Keep the slides clean and the seals well lubed and they want to slide and not grab and flip.

Here too, I use a piece of lattice wood 1/4" thick, 1.5" wide and 4' long. Use it all the time.

I also use the awning stick if necessary. If I keep the rubber treatment on them I seldom have a problem, however.

We also use the awning stick when necessary. We have noticed that the only seals with problems are the ones w/o a window. In our previous SOB 2 slide we had windows at each seal and never had a problem. Perhaps by putting something on the slide w/o a window would help bring the seal out.

We have experienced with all our trailers. Usually just one side of one slide, mostly sporadic, and I have a measure stick with slideout distances, which is handy for sliding the seal out.

You can stop the slide about six inches from being fully extended and push out stubborn areas from the inside with your hand. Then complete the extension of the slide. I have only one that requires this.

Or, you can use white weather seal strips about 2" long on the roof and sidewalls of the slide rooms with the adhesive stuff already on it. Stick them in strategic places and it will flip the wiper seal as the rooms open and close.

Just a thought.

I used the thin non skid tape sold for steps. It tapes onto the slide and pulls the seal out when extending. Works every time. The tape I found is only about 3/4 inch wide with a contact cement backing.
