Ford recall 14E03

Anyone with a 2011 thru 2014 (I think) Ford 6.7 diesel will likely get a recall notice if you have not already. Or check on line to see if you are affected. I would suggest you take it in for the computer reflash. It might save you from getting stuck on the side of the road.

It is to prevent the engine from immediately shutting down on a high exhaust temp sensor. There has been a problem with those sensors going bad and reporting extremely high temps.

I had a sensor fail about 3 months ago. I was towing a small utility trailer on the highway, slowed to pull onto some land we own, slowed to about 5 mph, message popped up on display "stop safely now", engine immediately died, and I barely coasted enough to get the trailer off the highway. If it had been the Monte it would have blocked the highway. Had I been slowing for a traffic light or stop sign or to turn a corner, I would have been stuck in the middle of the road.

The reflash is supposed to correct the engine dying problem. I confirmed that with the service advisor, but forgot to ask what would happen with the new reflash if a sensor went bad again.

Just got my recall notice in our forwarded mail. There were actually two issues listed on it. I was going to put it off for a couple weeks. Thanks for the heads up BB TX, I will be taking it in right away.

The recall notice gives rather vague statements about meeting new emissions requirements and in addition recalibration to reduce sensor faults to improve drivabiity. By "improved drivability" they mean not dying in the middle of the road.

My truck done this morning, Walker Ford Clearwater Florida. No longer have the possibility of an immediate engine shutdown via exhaust temp sensors.

What was the second issue?
1) Selective Catalyst Reduction system calibration update.
2) Reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (pasts/labor).

Got the recall today but I'm still going to carry my two spare EGT sensors, 13mm flare wrench, and a code scanner. Pullover safely now message isn't a good thing no matter the time of day or location. Hope Ford got it right with this recall.

I had my F450 serviced Friday. Only one of the recalls effected my truck. My service writer commented on how well the Superduty model has done with 6.7. I am very happy in light of recent recalls of My new Jeep and the GM recalls. It happens I know!

Get ready for more frequent REGEN'S. After compliance, two in less than forty miles. Monitoring times closely.
