Post trip "airing out the fridge"

We always included opening the fridge doors to let it air out and dry up on our previous rigs. (Not a fan of mold) Our 3160 makes that more difficult by trapping the fridge against the sink island. Opening the freezer doors are no prob, but you can barely crack open the lower doors. I have found I can insert a couple of paint stir sticks to help prop them open, but that's bout as good as it gets.
I'm really not fond of the idea of cracking that slide out a few inches to get more room, so let's hope it gets enough air to do the job.

Another example of things you do not notice until you start using the rig. I have been told if the seals are broken (door to frig) that is sufficient, if true, then your paint sticks solution should work. I have a small frig in the storage compartment next to the convenience center. With the storage door closed I can only get the frig door open a half inch, and keep it propped open(because I am too lazy to reposition after I installed). So far, 18 months, has been sufficient, no mold, no stink.

On our 3160 we get out as much moisture as we can after we unload the fridge and then when we part it at our storage place between uses we open the freezer doors and then on the fridge doors, we open them the inch or so that you can and wedge a towel into the opening sim-to what you are doing with the paint sticks. So far we have been OK on minimizing any mold (only time is when we forgot or the towel slipped out).

I feel the pain. I bring the rig home and leave the fridge open for a cpl hrs until dries...then off to storage.

After emptying fridge, I open both doors and put a piece of foam into the small top shelf of refir door. This foam also extends into freezer. I then wrap a bungee cord through both handles and attach one end to vent over stove. This holds both doors ajar and i never have problems with mold or smell.

Clean frig. Let dry. Let dry. Let dry!!

Use the crumbled newsprint as suggested by kdeiss.

Close doors.

I have done this with refrigs, coolers, etc. for years. Yes, even my coolers. Opened one after 2 years, took newsprint out, damp cloth to outside, filled, ice, ready to picnic.

The thing is, before you load with newsprint, it must be clean and DRY!!

Don't know about yours but on our 305RL the freezer doors can stay open and the right frig door also. Doesn't hit the island.

Many Norcold models (our 2012 for sure) have a "storage latch" which is to be used when the refer won't be used for a while. There is a slide lever in the handles which extends a small latch to keep the door from closing completely. The Norcold 12xx manuals reference this piece but I couldn't find it in the Polar Max 1800 PDF. Maybe they saved a nickle by eliminating it.

We use an ozone generator. Even at the house. Runs on batteries and we leave on all the time. Works extremely well! Bought mine via Amazon.

I had same issue, if you have the norcold double door fridge, there is a piece on the left door, its black and slides when you close the door, if you manually move that piece BEFORE you close the fridge, and close that door first, then the other, it keeps both doors open just a crack, and I can still close the slides. Works great, and no extra parts needed.

I got a small pice of plastic that holds the 4 doors open about a half inch that cane with the rig. It slides in the area between the 4 doors and the doors close and latch on it keeping them a bit open.
