Tow mirrors-2500HD

I will be picking up my 2955RL in a couple weeks. I have a 2002 Silverado 2500HD with regular mirrors. What kind of add-on extension mirrors have you tried? My present mirrors have the chrome back, so I want something that will not scratch. Thanks.

My 2003 Chevy had the same mirrors as yours does 2002dura. I went to my montana dealership and bought the mirrors that slide over the factory mirrors and had a clip that attached on the front side and used a round plastic screw type cap that went on the back of the clip which allowed you to tighten the clip as tight or loose as you needed. They also had foam on the inside so when they slide over your chrome factory mirrors they would not scratch. I have since traded in for the 2004 chevy and have the factory extending towing mirrors, if the old mirrors were not out in the storage barn I could get the name for you. If memory serves I want to say they were right around $50.00 I kept them incase I ever needed them again and would buy another if I had to replace these in a heart beat.

I think Montana Sky is talking about the CIPA slip on mirrors which are the same mirrors I use on my 2500HD. They cost in the neighborhod of $30.00 each
CIPA Mirrors

They work great and they don't vibrate like some of the velcro or rubber strap types on do.

I found the CIPA web site but they do not show these particular mirrors. Do a Google search "CIPA Mirrors" for dealers.

I agree with Montana Sky, I had the same type of mirrors for my Dodge and they worked fine. I know have the OEM extended on my GMC. You should think about replacing them with the OEM type I think easy to install but I am sure a few $$

I too have the CIPA mirrors and they work great! They should not scratch your chrome mirrors since they have the foam strips.

There is a fair amount on this topic in the archives. You can use the "Search" option above.

I also have the CIBA mirrors on a 2500 and am very happy with them. No shake and rattle, and just the right extension.

Glenn,
Thanks for the help on this one. I just could not remember the name of those mirrors to save my life. Those are the exact ones I was talking about, great mirrors. Thanks again

No thanks necessary. These are my 3rd set of mirrors. First I tried the ones with a velcro strap and the mirror vibrated so badly I thought it would fall off. That plus trying to look out those vibrating things made me nauseous. Than I tried the ones with the rubber straps. The were a bit better but even those vibrated. In both cases I was constantly adjusting them. It didn't matter how tight I pulled on the straps I was adjusting them at most every rest stop.
These slip-on mirrors are great, they go on and off easily and they look better AND they don't VIBRATE.

We also have the CIPA (CIBA) mirrors on our D/A. Got them at Camping World, and I think there available through their catalog. Steve, you're right about them not vibrating, plus they have a clean look.

Oops,
Glenn, I just realized that was your comment on the vibration. Sorry!

Here are Camping World links to the 3 types...

CIPA Universal Tow Mirror wouldn't waste my time on thme and they cost way too much for what you get.

Clip-on Tow Mirror Better than the Universal Tow Mirror but not much better on the vibration. Cheapest of the 3

This link is to the mirrors we have been talking about....
CIPA Slip-on Tow Mirrors All though they look different than the previously posted picture they are the same thing. I also didn't see a listing for the newer Silverados but they are available in the stores so they should also be available online.

Do your mirrors mount with the curved chrome tubing like the picture of the CIPA Slip-on Tow Mirrors? If they do, I have a pair of mirrors that clamp onto that tube. I used them for about 5 yrs, little to no vibration. Don't need them on the new truck. PM me for more info if you're interested. (I think my email is available).

2002Dura -

When we were buying our 2004 Silverado it did not have the towing mirrors. Dealer said he could just get a set off another truck and put them on for me. Great dealership - Runde in East Dubuque - Tim Runde started putting the new mirrors on himself on a Saturday afternoon. Ran into problems because they had to be programmed so he called in a tech to do that. So, if you want the factory ones, it can be done - probably just a little pricier. But this way when I want them extended, I just hit a button.

Thanks for all the replys. The CIPA's look pretty good, and sound like what I am looking for. Would like to get the factory type, but more $$$ than I want to go.

Our 2001 2500HD did not have towing mirrors. I bought Lucerix mirrors to replace the stock ones. These are a bolt on direct replacement for the stock mirror and retain the power operation and heated mirror functions. Lucerix no longer market them, but the identical mirror is now sold by CIPA through Camping World. Here is the link: http://www.campingworld.com/browse/p...38&prodID=3410
