Shortcut between Demming and Hatch, NM
Has anyone ever taken New Mexico 26 between Demming(I-10)and Hatch (I25) with their Montana without incident? It is significantly shorter than through Las Cruces, but is not GOLD listed on the truckers atlas.

Both my truckers atlas and my Rand McNally RV GPS told me not to go there so I didn't. I've been told there are a couple of tight turns going that way, but never confirmed it. It looks a lot shorter, but I'm not sure it's a whole lot faster anyway so no I've never tried it. I have checked on the Atlas and the GPS, without the Monty, on other roads they told me to stay off and both have proved to be reliable as far as what I wanted to tackle.

My apologies! Shouldn't have believed the folks I talked with. If Charlie says it's ok, go with his advice.

I know people that take that route all the time and I will take it the next time I go that way. The last time I was there in the area several years ago the road was closed. Joe
