Roof Replacement

We will need to replace our roof and I would like to hear from anyone that has used one of the “spray on” roofs than a the EPDM. Thanks in advance for your comments. Cost vs durability etc

I think a membrane of some kind would be a must have. Any topical treatment or coating is only as good as the first crack or missed spot around a vent or air conditioner.

There is a company in here in Florida that puts on spray roofs. we have seen it at the rv shows and it looks good, The name is Flex Armour. We also heard some using rhino liner on roofs too but who knows. all i know is there are better systems than the rubber roofs out there but the cost is the main factor.

If you google rv spray on roof there are countless articles about it with many different brands advertised. Last time I looked I could not find any real reviews about them though. I looked only out of curiosity after reading about them, not something I was needing or considering.

Thumbs up Roll on Roof

When our roof tore, we had it upgraded (yes I will use that term) to a roll-on (not spray) type roof that was applied in multiple layers. The company (RV-Armor.com) came to our mini-storage lot to apply the roof and we are very satisfied with it. I was on the roof a couple of weeks ago and it still looks like new after going through a West Virginia winter. I am not endorsing the product as each must make their own decision, but for half the price of an installed EDPM roof, I could not be happier! The product is guaranteed against water leakage for the life of your rig. Here are some pics of the final product, if you want to see a before pic, it is at the bottom of the home page listed above:

We do building water proofing, specialty coatings and rubber membrane systems. With the shacking and movement that goes on when you when in tow I would with some kind of membrane sys. I'v seen different kinds of coating open up just from a building sidelining!

Bingo I saw that roof over done before my only problem is when some thing happens under the rubber roof that needs to fixed like the staples start popping up on the round over edge can the refill the area a round that so it looks the same or you need to pull out a sky light?

The roof actually hardens to a somewhat hard rubber-like substance. With regards to the staples, there were problematic areas and I paid the installer to remove them and replace them with screws. If a skylight has to be removed and impacts the integrity of the roof, in order to mainatain the warranty, the installing company will come out and reseal those areas for an hourly rate. I will add that 80% of the areas that was re-surfaced still has the original EDPM roof under it so at this point I am not too overly concerned with staples popping through. If it does occur, repairs can still be done, but again at the hourly rate. As stated, it is an option, but as with everything a personal choice. We are very satisfied with our choice.

Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions. I just had the Flex Armor roof put on my unit and it appears to be a much better roof than EPDM. The local shop here in Denton, Texas paid particular attention to the prep work and the final product seems to be fantastic. The shop was welcoming for me to be there during any phase of th process so I got to see a lot of what and how they did it. A surprise came when we were prepping the roof, a pinhole leak from a hailstorm last year which caused a small undetectable leak. If I had not replaced the roof I would have never known it until the roof panel failed or deteriorated enough to have water drip into the cabin. This roof will not be as easily punctured. Lifetime guarantee but time will tell how it goes. The process makes sense and should be good for the life of the unit. Limited roof time which makes me happy.

I've seen the ads for Flex Armor. If you don't mine me asking, how much do they charge to install. Thanks.

They were less than the two “direct shops” that Good Sam (National General) uses for their claims Camping World and Coach Specialists, by over a thousand dollars. The charge is based on the length of the roof. They will give you a price if you call them with your camper info. Better cost , better warranty, better protection, seemed liked an easy decision to me. This technology has been around 15 years I don’t know why anyone would use or replace with EDPM. Time will tell if I made a good decision.

It has been three years since this thread started. My 2013 3625RE is showing signs of micro cracks in the edpm and mold damage. I wanted to know from those who replaced their roof, how has it been holding up after 3 additional years? How old was your RV when you decided to replace the roof? How did they address things like air conditioners, soft spots in the plywood roof material, and the edges? I’m likely going to get this addressed next winter. Thanks in advance!

The roof is still like new! Of course a little winter dirt but once that is washed off it is perfect. They looked at everything and luckily I did not have any soft spots that had to be replaced, but they do that if necessary. Everything was removed as part of the prep, A/C’s, vent cover etc. The camper was covered so nothing would get on the sides or places the spray was ‘nt supposed to go. When they finished they installed new vent covers and I had them install a new shower cover since the old one was turning yellow and a little crazed. I also had a Winegard connect 2 and they installed studs in the spray rubber to mount it ion case it ever needed replacing. I could not be happier with how this turned out. A much better roof with a life time warranty that was much less than an EDPM original roof. I know I sound like a commercial for this but it works and I will do this again if I buy a new camper.
