Warning for dog owners visiting Quartzsite

Just passing along an email sent to me

Planning to bring your beloved canine friend with you to Quartzsite this season? Make sure your pal is “up” on his distemper vaccinations. Several towns in the area have been hit with an outbreak of canine distemper, and Quartzsite is among them.
As you may already know, canine distemper is contagious viral disease, and is quite often fatal. This particular strain of distemper seems to be particularly bent on affecting puppies, but distemper can also strike older animals. Once hit, the patient usually winds up with respiratory and nervous system problems, and the end (and we have personal experience on this one) is ugly.
Before bringing you traveling companion, visit your vet and make sure they’re ready for the trip.

Thanks Charlie, will call the vet, huge issue here, last time Tilly got a shot she had severe reaction, turned bright red all over, and I mean every square inch of her 7 pound body. I will be on the phone Monday AM.

Charlie, thanks for the information. Did anyone remember about the rough surface at Q for the dog's pads? There was someone who said they would bring booties for the dogs, but then my CRS crept in.....

Last year I saw a few of the Pet stands have some, but ... Their supply and sizes were limited!

Thanks, Charlie for the heads up on distemper! We are current, but since it has been since April I am double-checking!

BTW... Brings a smile to your face to see the dogs trying to walk with booties! Don't forget your cameras .... Fantastic desert sunsets against the mountains and dogs with booties!!! Can't beat it!!

I think Dave Anderson said he has a friend that cleans up the I-did-a-rod trail, and has plenty of the booties. You may check with him. Bill
