Range Hood Fan Noise
I have read the various solutions that have been posted, two speeds, change the fan blade, replace w/ a muffin fan.
I have replaced the fan with a muffin fan with a 12v cooling fan, 4.72 inches, 30000rpm, 85cfm, 320mA. It is quiet BUT the flow is not enough to open the damper on the hood nor the outside vent flap. The flaps are free and easily move.
So, what am I missing? Should this not be enough? I have tired taping of some of the opening but so far this has not had an impact.

Sounds like you don't have a big enough fan.

Yes, I would agree, but from reading the past posts on this issue it appears the muffin fans being used were of the same size.

In previous posts on the subject, the simple solution that most all miss, is to swap the bathroom fan blade with the range fan blade. They just pop off the shaft and pop back on. Now the range hood is quiet with plenty of cfm, and the bathroom fan is noisy, but that's not all that bad.

Got to agree. I did this on our previous Montana (2008) and it worked great. Cost was zero and so was skill level required to do it.

Have seen a mod where the flap is opened and closed from inside the RV with a set-up like the screen door opener made from a bicycle spoke. Can't remember where I saw it though.

Well, it is not that simple for me, from the above posts. The fan blade from the vent in bath area is too large. The spindle is a "D" and larger than the range hood motor. It just wobbles and of course that is more noise. I have been searching on the web and no luck so far for a blade for the spindle that is 3/32" and is 6 to 6 5/8" diameter with 6 blades. I have the old motor and the old blade from the vent. I may try to adapt the existing bracket or make a new bracket to mount this motor and fan blade and see what it does.
Boy, what I thought was going to be an easy task has turned out to be anything but...

We had a hood fan on a SOB that wouldn't open the vent and we found the motor was turning the wrong way. We reversed the wires the everything worked.

Nosticks, yep I looked at that fan blade and that is the one I have from the old fan in the loo that is the same blade. It had a "D" shaped shaft and my motor on the range hood fan is 3/32" spine shaft. So the fan blade hole is too big. I am still working on a solution. I have been communicating with FrozenCPU.com on the size of fans for the area of the box etc.. of the range hood. He believes if I were to purchase a muffin fan I would need something in the 160 to 200 cfm. So I am working on what solution I may want to try, purchase a larger muffin fan or replace the existing motor and fan with the one from the vent in the loo. (I have replaced the fan in the loo)
