How was TX. this year?
Not much posted this year from all you Winter Texans who were able to go. How was the Weather? Has the live entertainment changed much at the parks or is it the same old stuff? Still safe in Progreso?

Cool and wet. Had 4 inches of rain in 3 days in Dec in Brownsville, more than an inch on other occassions. First time in 3 yrs that Texas has not been in a drought. Temps were about 12 degrees below past winters a lot of days. Mexico Army presence is everywhere even in the downtown area of Mattamoros. Progresso had a shoot out in the streets in early Dec before we arrived. We were in both Progresso and Mattamoros on numerous occassions and never felt threaten. Would not go there after dark. Not many winter texans were going to mattamoros past Garcias. Thier economy is hurting due to the fact that a lot of us would not venture accross the border.

The weather? Well it wasn't very nice anywhere (cooler and above average rain)this year but we are a very optimistic couple and we felt it was so much better then NE that we didn't complain. Days it wasn't comfortable outdoors, we did things inside. Our park doesn't have much for entertainment but enjoyed Riverside as they put up a new very nice building to dance. Pepe's was too cold most of the time and that has went down hill through the yrs. We also enjoy any 50's band so attended a few of them danc'n to the Cruisers. There was one small scare at Progreso (a personal matter I guess with some shooting) in the first part of Dec, but we went 6 or 7 times with friends and enjoyed ourselves as always, would not want to be there after sunset!

I'll summarize our experience. This is our third winter in the RGV.
Entertainment: Same old same old.
Weather: In 3 months last year went thru 3 tanks of propane, this year in 2 months went thru 6 tanks. Arrive Jan 2 and on the 3rd low was 27, on the 4th was 28. Last year if I wore long pants it was Sunday and we went to church, this year wore shorts ONLY 4 times. No winter tan.
Went to Progresso once and one Mexico tour, felt safe both times. Had a friend go to Matomosso (sp) and said never again.
All in all it was great: NO SNOW!!!!
We are now on the road thru AZ, CA, NV, & UT on the way back to WI and already looking forward to the RGV next winter.

all in all a great winter in donna, witnessed the shot in progresso in dec. from the balcony of the red snapper, got a little tight when the shooting started right below us, we were rushed back to the kitchen and then had to spend about 2hrs in the restaurant before they would let us out. still going to mexico, if its your time its your time
