How do others handle this situation ?
When I ordered my camper I told the dealer I didn't want the MORryde steps. I had visited the dealership a number of times to mess with those steps on units in their lot before ordering ours. Some days they felt light to lift, other days they didn't. Ok, so I wouldn't be lifting and lowering the steps a lot in one day. But still. I thought about those days when traveling and being at truck stops overnight. I knew with the old style steps it was just enough room while parked next to semi's for the night. MORryde sticks out and will definitely swing out further when opening. Those truckers park close to not hog room. I don't want to be that Rv person that ticks off my trucker friends. The rain is an issue I didn't want to deal with. First of all it's hard to dry off stairs outside while it's raining on you and the stairs. Then the mud. One more thing that crossed my mind was ANTS. Never been anywhere where there weren't any ANTS. Those little buggers can crawl and I don't want them inside. Sure I can spray the stairs but I'm one of those environmental freaks. Yes there is insecticide free stuff but I haven't found anything effective yet. The fold out steps have not been a problem for us yet. It doesn't matter the kind of steps. I can manage to trip on the best of them. I will just watch my step. No pun intended. The MORryde stairs are STURDY no doubt about that. You can run up and down them and feel very secure. They are fantastic, just not for us. We are too OCD about cleanliness.

didn't see anyone mention, apologize if i missed it, but they were a blessing for our old Bernese Mountain Dog (120lbs, RIP Bruce) he had a miserable time trying to get in with the old style.

The new puppy has no issue with the new style

Agree
That is an absolute plus for one of our mini poodles, the youngest, who was deathly afraid of the springboard OEM steps after a tumble. The older one never has a problem with any challenge.

Congrats on your rig. Just out of curiosity, what do you carry in the garage?

For us it is Kayaks and a motorcycle or a jet ski.
Our garage just holds all the stuff that won't fit inside. We have been full time for 3 years now and the "hidden" garage is a great place to keep tools, seasonal clothes and other odds and ends. Just got ours Sept 2017 and love it. Looking forward to upgrading the steps.

Its handy that's for sure! Glad your enjoying yours. We are still a long way from full time so its just the toys for us at this time.

When we did our PDI I asked the tech about adding the Step Above Stairs. He said MORryde was on Gen 2 of the stairs. He said Gen 1 twisted too easily and Gen 2 was better, but he said he would wait for Gen 3 stairs to come out. He said they will still twist. I am interested since having the hand rail on the steps would be beneficial to DW getting in and out

We have the exact same trailer you do. I have no idea what "generation" my steps are I installed but they are rock solid and easy to install. The one you would need is the 32 inch 4 step model, and I would recomend to buy the storage box at the same time. You saw earlier in the post what the box looks like on my trailer. Anything you would buy now would be the latest generation steps. Well worth the money. Total investment for the steps and box is right around $500

Hmmm! Twist? We have generation #1 and are unaware of any twisting. Rock solid for us.

With the factory folding steps down, they stick out around 33" form the side of the camper.

With the MorRyde 4 step system deployed, they stick out 38" from the side of the camper with the adjustable feet in the first extension hole.

This is where some of you may have a problem, but while raising/lowering the MorRyde 4 step system and the steps standing straight out to the side of the rig, with the feet in the first extension hole, they stick out 50" from the side of the rig.
Hope this helps in your decision.
This is why they do not work for us our Rv pad is along side the S &B and we would not be able to deploy the steps. They would also go over the yellow line at most truck stops. Good steps but will not work for all.

a question for you. We have the exact same trailer. I was e on the Keystone website going through the specs and it says our trailer is supposed to have "F" weight range tires, not the "E"s I think mine has. What ply ratings are yours

haven't used a truck stop but we used the rest areas out to Zion and back, didnt see a problem with passing the line, plus with our unit we need to put the kitchen slide out about 2' to enter the kitchen for making lunch. strategic planning on picking the right lane to park and stopping after 1pm to beat crowds worked well

That’s where I am at on the subject. I’m not going to risk my footing for a unlikely issue that has work arounds.

I think what he was referring to is they may be more likely to twist if the feet are not set properly.

You park that close to your house? I would think you would have issues getting into storage compartments?

Well you just rained on my day. My tires clearly state they are Load Range E.
They are Rainer Tires

Let's see. twist, parking lot lines, ants, dirt, water, trucks parking too close etc, etc, etc. If you aren't interested in a safer product then the original spring board steps and have figured out some obtuse reason why these steps wont work, that's great as we all each have a life's objective. We who have the MORryde/Lippert steps have been able to overcome any negative odds and have happily moved on with a much better entry to our RVs

Overall we are very happy with our MorRyde steps. Have not noticed any more debris or water inside as we close them but it does take more room to open them. They are much more stable and dog friendly.
