Montana LLC.

Can I get some feedback , both positive and negative on setting up a Montana state LLC. I live in NC. Just pondering the idea. Thanks Brent

Check and make sure what your state is doing about that and if there are plans in your state legislature to address that. A number of midwestern states have mad that an ugly situation for those who do it or have done it.

I'm with Dick. I don't know if NC is looking for this but people that have been caught in other states have been heavily fined

Check with folks in campgrounds that have Montana plates. A couple of guys I know from Texas have done it. They saved on purchase, registration and plates.

Check your state licence plate rules. In Colorado you have to have colorado plates if you are working in Colorado ( earning an income) . I recently moved my Licence plates and DL to South Dakota. I only have 8 more months to earn my income in Colorado and I am taking a chance driving with South Dakota plated and DL. I am buying a new Big Sky and Truck around March 2014. Changing plates and DL to South Dakota will save me about $10,000 in taxes and regristration fees. It is real easy to get changed in South Dakota. You do not have to set up an LLC.

The Montana LLC is a tax dodge. You set up a LLC and then register your new rv belonging to the company and avoid paying sales tax. If you are a fulltime rver and register as a resident like many do in SD that is fine but the LLC thing is being used by people that are residents in other states.

The South Dakota thing is also a tax dodge. I will save 8% vrs 3% on sales tax. I will save $200 for rv plates vrs $2000. I will save $100. vrs $900. for truck plates the 1st year alone. All you have to do is set up a mailbox in South Dakota and trade in your DL for South Dakota. No test required. It cost about $180 a year for the mail box service at America's Mailbox. I also will never pay Colorado State income tax again. We will be full time rver's. We own 3 homes in Colorado but will not be living in Colorado.

If it's legal, there's nothing crooked about it. We need to take advantage of everything we can in this day and age.

Heck no, that just makes you an American. This good ole boy once told me "everything's legal, until you get caught".
Some folks tend to get way too dramatic on such trivial stuff. I always told my young troops to never be envious of others talent or abilities. Just go get you some.

You got that right Jim, if it is Legal I would be all in, a few years back Washington st had BRUTAL tab fees every year we had to spend almost a thousand bucks to register our RV every year then us taxpayers repealed that B.S. Tax now it is all GOOD up here, 85 bucks YEAH!!!

Montana will welcome the funds, but there are states that are going after these people and will go 3 years back on taxes and licensing fees if caught.
Mt has a 1 time licensing fee for atv's, boats, cargo trailers, travel trailers, 5th wheelers etc License it once no more for as long as you own it.

A LLC is forming a corperation and registering your RV to that company.The problem is some states require you to register motor/trailers and such vehicles if you live in that state.Driving a corporate RV from Montana does not exempt you from that law.That is were Colorado went after LLC users.The fellow who is registering in South Dakota is really moving there,no law broken there,however jumping ahead my be troubling.

When we went full timing we retired from our jobs and sold our home in Ohio. We chose South Dakota for cost, convenience and because the government says you have to have an address somewhere. If that's a tax dodge, so be it. Have you ever noticed that if you do something to reduce your tax liability its a legitimate move or deduction. If the other guy does it, it's a tax dodge or loophole.
