My first time on the road

My company has moved me from Albuquerque to Denver on Tuesday. Im hoping I do everything correctly. question.. once I unplug for shore power what do I need to do to keep the fridge running? do I just change modes from ac to au?

I keep mine on au. It will default to a/c when present, otherwise LP. Gas needs to be on and you'll need your 12v on.

Some will tell you that you should turn off the LP when driving for safety reasons. Some tunnels and gas stations require it off. Unless you're traveling a great distance or in very hot weather, it's ok to keep it off, things stay cold.

I do as Ken does. Run with the gas on so the frig will keep on cooling. If I go into a gas station or truck stop to refuel I do go back and turn off the gas before ppulling up to a pump just to make sure the fumes from refueling do not reach the frig vents and ignite. After refueling I do turn the LP back on.

We never travel with the propane on and have never had our refrigerator lose temp even when we spent the day in 100 degree heat. We have the doors filled with cans of pop and a couple of freezer blocks in the freezers and don't move with things like ice cream in there. On the other hand we always have the frig on AU when we are set up. We may go on a trip for a couple of days and don't want to be surprised by a power failure.

We also travel with LP on, and as indicated, frig will switch automatically.

We also travel with propane on as we buy our fuel at Love's or Pilot truck stops. Faster getting fueled up and much more convenient getting into pumps. Sometimes pull out and park to have lunch or breakfast inside trailer.

WARNING, that it's not any propane fumes that are the hazard, it's the sparking ignitions that are the problem at gas stations or tunnels. Turning off the propane will not prevent the sparking from whatever device is left on and then it tries to start up. You should turn off the fridge, furnace or any device where your 12v supply is trying to spark back on prior to entering a gas station or tunnel. By turning off only the propane, this would actually aggravate this situation because the devices will continue to spark as they try to light.

I travel with only the fridge on and shut it off at the pumps. I haven't towed enough to go into too many tunnels so I haven't had to pull over for them, yet. I know of others who also leave their furnace on or even the Hot Water heater when traveling during very cold weather. It's these sparks may cause explosions at gas stations and in tunnels.

We travel with the LP on...that's the way it's designed to operate.

We travel with the propane on also. These refers are smarter these days. They know if propane or A/C is available, and use whichever is there (defaulting to A/C) I wonder if there are any statistics on record of "events" which have occurred over the road as a result of propane tanks being turned on while driving. Some tunnels are now allowing propane, where as in the past, you couldn't go thru even if they were shut off. The times, they are a changin...

We now travel with frig/propane on. Our frig would heat up to 50 degrees and freezer to 25-30 when traveling on hot days (90+) without propane.
there were a lot of posts about this when I joined 5-6 years ago. If I recall correctly, there was only 1 reported explosion at a gas station that 'may' have been caused by a trailer. From what was said, gas fumes are actually heavier than air, and stay low to the ground. So the frig sparks would not be very likely to start a fire.
I know, I don't want to be that one person that has an explosion, but guess I will play the odds.
