Toilet Question
When we flush the toilet, the valve is closing slower than it used to. Sometimes I even have to snap it several times to close it fully or lift up on the foot pedal.
Is there an adjustment I can make on the foot valve to get it to close stronger? It is like the springs in there are getting weak or something.
Thanks ahead of time.

One thing that I learned a few years ago from the forum, is the foot valves are supposedly designed to be "slammed" shut. I seem to remember something about this actually helps to keep the seals clean and pliable. It is a hard habit to pick up, but since we started "slamming" the toilet shut by completely releasing the foot pedal all at once a couple of times during flushing, we have not had any toilet problems since. Sounds somewhat like the seals may be a little dirty so perhaps your disclosure about snapping it is a hint to keep doing it that way? I am curious what the owner's manual says about the flushing procedure. This is not given as knowledgeable advice but rather passing on something we learned from the MOC that seems to be working.

What Bingo says, plus add a little vegetable oil, let it sit and then flush a couple of times.

Ohhh vegetable oil works wonders! Ours wasn't holding water after a few uses and I used some of the spray cooking oil and it works like a charm now!

If you pull the cover and foot pedal off the side there is a spring pack. Sometimes one of the springs goes booooinnng. Now do NOT think you can take it apart and put it back in place, ain't gonna happen. I spent most of a day trying and when I took it into the RV supply place he kinda chuckled. Said yeah everyone tries to put it back together. But must happen a lot cause they keep several on hand and the spring pack only costs $20 well spent. When you put it back together do not tighten the bolt too tight cause same thing will happen, it won't allow the valve to close all the way and water will leak out. Course too it just may be things got all kinds of sticky in there and needs cleaned or that bolt loosened. Could take off the cover, it just snaps on, and spray it down with some silicone or WD-40 and see if it works loose.

Same problem...After using every towel in the trailer to dry the floor and rug when the bowl overflowed one afternoon while we were gone. Took to the dealer, they sprayed some stuff on it....worked about a week. I went to the auto parts store and got a pack of assorted universal choke pull off springs. pick the one of appropriate strength and length. Carefully drilled a small hole on the back of the foot pedal, loosened the hold down nut on the toliet just enough to get the hook I formed to slip under and hooked the other end in the hole made on the foot pedal. Been working just fine for the past several months.

Thanks for the tips. I will try the cooking oil one first and see how that works.
