How often?

We have a new 37 foot 2012 and my wife has suggested we cover it up between trips. So covering and uncovering around 15 times a year. Could you guys/gals give me some insight on my delima! I had a 32 sprinter before the montana and covered it up during the winter months so I know whats involved. What is the frequency folks cover theirs up?

We own a 2002 2955RL and we have never covered it even though it would keep the roof cleaner but hey, it's a roof. Your location/environment may require a different strategy but here in New England we have never covered it. The sides and end caps still clean up nicely and the graphics are in very good shape. I'm sure that other MOCers will have differing opinions and you will get all the pros and cons.

Ditto on the never using a cover on any rig we have owned. Too much work for me!

Like others we have never covered. Fifteen times per year would be a MAJOR undertaking. Heck doing it even ONCE would be a major job for me. Good luck with that. Dennis

We have never covered ours either. They are built to be outside and if you are lucky enough to have covered storage I would say that your roof may last longer than most but to go through that much work...not for me.

I got talked into buying a cover from the previous owner. Never used it. And I can't see myself trying to throw that puppy over my trailer by myself anyway. Blonde moment...

I have never covered mine for the past 6 years--and it is stored outside in South Texas HEAT! But not much rain. From what I have read elsewhere, the flapping of the cover does more damage to the RV relative to the protection you get. But, I do cover my tires--the sun will eat them up!

Called Keystone. They do not recommend covering it.

This is our 4th camper and we have never covered any of them. Read some where that a cover also doesn't let the vents breath right and it holds in moisture which could cause mold. Not a good thing!!

IMHO the only benefit to covering your rig is for the company that manufactures it and the dealer who sells it. Save your money.

I think if not ventilated properly between the roof and the cover, you could have mold issues, not to mention wear marks or damage from winds where the cover touches the trailer.

Covering a rig is definitely an owner's preference and some have done it if they live under lots of trees and sap or things that are mostly harmful to a rig that's designed to be outside all the time.

Otherwise, I, like most others just don't mess with one. If you don't get the snugness right, then any flapping can cause body wear. If it's too tight then you'll probably get rubbing and wear. Most have opted for extensive cleaning and protectants that you'd need even if you covered it, so why add the expense of a cover that brings along its own issues. I have seen too many covers on rigs in storage lots that are ripped to shreds anyways.

I can see why Keystone recommends not doing this if they must warranty a rig then a cover wears parts of it out prematurely. The rigs are supposed to take the wear of the weather. So while I don't cover my rig, I DO cover the tires. The sun does and will rot out tires quicker than I can use them rolling down the road, but that's the extent of "coverage".

My advice, for what it's worth is DON'T cover it. There have been too many cases of mildew developing under the cover and staining the rig. Plus high winds cause the cover to billow and abrade the fiberglass as well as possible damage to things mounted on the roof.

I used the cover one winter. We had a lot of wind that year and one of the side zippers ended up higher than designed on the edge of the roof and rubbed through the rounded edge. Needless to say I don't use it any longer.

I have never covered my trailers in the past. I had a friend who did and he found that in a wind the cover chafed against the sides and end caps causing unwelcome wear no matter how well he secured it. Just keep a good wax on which will help protect against the sun.
