Yeah they teamed up with International for diesel engines too. That worked sort of.

Old (?) system works pretty good too...just takes you on interesting side trips when it gets bored with the interstate, like downtown Boston during morning rush hour!

This post peaked my interest as I'm "considering" a 2011 F350 Diesel. After spending a great deal of time in Google the only link I could come up with is this:

http://media.ford.com/article_displa...ticle_id=32094

Garmin, as well as most other GPS gadget providers buy their maps from Navteq. Which BTW, was bought about a year ago and panicked Garmin shareholders, who still haven't come back.

While the Ford Work Solutions technology is probably out in front at this point, I can find no reference to a deal with Garmin in any of the Ford literature. Perhaps Ford has entered into an agreement with Garmin to repackage their data rather than deal with Navteq directly.

What I'm hopeful of is being able to upload maps and POI's to an indash system such as referenced in the link.

It appears the big three still want to be the gatekeeper for data by keeping it "proprietary" meaning they can charge you three times retail for updates.

But it looks like wer're getting closer.

Cheers,

Robert

the liturature on the new 2011 fords navi that i recieved from ford said that the maping was garmin .they told me that was the mapping that you buy when you buy a garmin gps. the big three navi by themself are not very good.i would not spend the money just for that reason.but after having my garmin stolen from the truck the indash gps are to me alot more secure and harder to try and steal.the gm system is to me byfar the best as long as you get the turn by turn with it.other wies it is hard to find what your looking for.
