Hello

Byron and Kelly Jones new to forum. Previously owned a Keystone Laredo TT for 5 years now a 3582RL Montana Fifth Wheel. New to the fifth wheel and a little intimidated. Going out for our first weekend August 18th local campground. Have watched several you tube videos on hooking up, auto leveling and reconnecting. Spent some time getting familiar with the coach in our yard. Wish us luck!!!

You should love the difference in towing manners. Backing up the fifth wheel is all about steering wheel input, then centering wheel, then more turn input. If truck starts to get too cocked to one side, pull forward a bit to allow truck to be normal. This will also relieve stress on tires of trailer. Sometimes you will be an expert, sometimes less than good. John

Welcome to the MOC from Washington State.
We hope all goes well with your first outing. Don't forget that checking things twice in your hookup shows experience and three times is not all that bad. It takes less time to be cautious than it does to make repairs.
If you have the time, take the 5er to a large empty parking lot and practice backing and turning and if you have small cones put them out while you practice just to hone your skills.

Welcome aboard the MOC Forum from the Great State of Nebraska. This is one place you definitely want to be because there is so much information on here that it will make your head swim. If you have questions ask away and you will get a multitude of answers from the most knowledgeable people around when it comes to Montana's, actual owners. You didn't mention what year your 3582 is but we hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoy ours. We have a 2013 model and really like the open space in the main living area.

If you can arrange it and make it up to Goshen, IN, MOC will be holding their Annual Fall Rally September 21st-28th and it is a great way to meet fellow Montana owners and learn about your unit. We have sessions from the OEM manufacturers that Keystone buy from, tour the plant where your unit was made and much much more. You can find info on the Fall Rally here on the Forum under Annual MOC Rallies/2016 Annual North American Fall Rally. Just page down and you should see the threads concerning it. Full info in on the site on how to register and join-in in the fun. Come join us for an informational and fun time. Hope to see you there.

I'm glad you're intimidated. It will make you so much more aware of your surroundings and thereby enable you to be successful. Chris and I were newbies last year and a lot of our 5th wheel challenges took us a while to overcome. In fact, some of our cries for help or information are still somewhere on this site. Here is my only one piece of advice and I'm sure it has already been discussed by you. Always. ALWAYS, have one person outside of the rig when executing a difficult maneuver. Let that person outside be the decision maker. We are camp hosting in a campground with a number of live oaks. The other day I had to help someone remove the rest of his awning because no one went outside to point out the dangers. Good Luck!

Welcome to the forum! One thing that helps getting used to backing and turning the trailer is to take it to a shopping center early in the morning or late in the evening and practice using the parking lines when there's nothing you can hurt. Also, when you are setting up, don't let folks interrupt you. They mean well and may just want to say hi, but tell them you'll come see them once you are set up. Otherwise you will forget something. This is something you will want to do even after pulling in and setting up are a regular thing for you.

In addition to the above, checklists are your friend, both hen new so you catch everything and once you're experienced so you don't get too confident and forget something. Go slow and write stuff down on setup and tear down both and make a list that works for you. There are many around to start with but each rig, setup, and personal gear is different.

I wrote down the instructions from the you tube video for hooking up, unhooking and auto leveling. I always step outside the vehicle to help hubby back. I have been told the fifth wheel will be easier than the TT, I just hope I agree. I am overly cautious by nature.

Welcome to the forum & greetings from Kentucky!
One of the best things about owning a Montana is this forum.
This is a great place to share and find information about your Montana.
Congratulations on the Montana! I love the fifth wheel experience and don’t want to go back to a trailer. In a few trips and a little experience you’ll have it nailed.
