Hi all, soon-to-be new (used) owner! We are looking at a used 2005 Big Sky Montana and I'm trying to do some research of current owners of Keystones. Glad to have found this forum.
What we are aiming to do is move the RV onto some inherited land and live out of it for a few years while we contemplate building eventually. The land is out in the country, so zoning is no problem. There is already well water, and septic (just have to find the septic connection). We are waiting on finishing the road and clearing the space to put the RV before we can do this, will be a few months.
The goal is to live as cheaply as possible, with no mortgage or lot rent. The land is inherited from hubby's grandma, 5.66 acres, 8 miles from our city. The '05 Montana we are looking at belongs to my sis's father-in-law and we will be getting a deal on, will be bought in cash. I can't remember the model numbers, just that it's a 36' triple slide. Oh, my sis own's an RV dealership (another brand, way out of my price range, this one was trade in from her father-in-law). Bonus: sis's hubby is certified RV mechanic, and will deliver and setup.
The stepson is off to college this fall, so it will be just my hubby and me. We aim to set it up sorta homesteadish. Will add a big carport structure over for protection and extending out to cover a big porch to add some outdoor living space. Will also add some structure down the road, shed's if you will, for stepson his own space when he's here on college breaks, and my daughter and family when they come to visit.
Since the RV will be in one spot for a length of time, we will skirt it, add heat tape and insulation on plumbing, and set up a wall of sorts on the north side to block winters cold wind. The spot has tons of trees for lots of shade. Want to start gardening out there, as well.
The Montana has a good layout we like, triple slide, plenty of storage, and think it will fit our needs very well. My concern is for our 2 little doggies, and if it's possible to somehow include a doggy door on this RV. Anyone have any luck or pointers for that?
but already found some 6ft fencing on the property we will be enclosing around the RV. Other than that, I am with them near 24/7, so all is good.
