First Trip Report

Last Monday (April 5) my wife and I picked up our new 2955RL at American RV in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Although we reside in north Georgia, we decided to purchase our fifth wheel from this Michigan dealer due to a notable price savings. We didn’t feel at all rushed as we went through a very thorough predelivery inspection. During this process, a technician installed a splitter and properly labeled wires to accommodate our portable satellite dish – no charge. When it time to hook-up we discovered that the slider release handle on our Reece fifth wheel hitch has been installed incorrectly here in north Georgia. A considerable amount of time was provided by another American RV technician to correct this problem – no charge. We camped near the dealership for two days to identify problems and have them corrected. The only issue we encountered was a small water leak coming from the base of the shower frame. After a call for help, we had a technician at our campsight within twenty minutes. A small amount of silicone corrected the problem. Based on our experience, we would recommend American RV to anyone. We traveled more than half way home on Wednesday and camped for two days at a nice KOA in north Kentucky. Our Montana towed well and our 250 Ford Diesel Powerstroke in tow/haul mode performed beautifully both on the flats and in the mountains. In route our bedroom TV fell from its shelf and dinged the right side edge of the front mirrored door. I removed the top frame assemble and reversed the two mirrored doors so this problem doesn’t show. Needless to say we’ve since secured our television appropriately for travel. Soon after departing for Georgia a truck driver motioned us to pull over. We did so and discovered the television antenna hadn’t been properly positioned and was extended over the side. No damage done. We’re home safe and sound now and couldn’t be more pleased with the quality of our Montana as well as our dealership experience.
