Our kids introduced us to an internet telephone system that is free, worldwide and works very well (so far). You do need speakers and a microphone on your PC or laptop.
www.skype.com is where you download the software. Set up your own personal ID and just let your family and freinds know your "handle". When you call the PC rings! No telemarketing calls even!
It's neat and there are no long distance charges anywhere in the world. Just a thought. Will it stay free? Don't know - I suspect that at some time in the future there will be a subscription charge but there is always the option to turn it off if the cost turns out to be too high.
As with any software I do strongly recommend a good anti-virus software be used and updated frequently. (At hame our network is also firewall protected).
