Spline coming out of Slide Topper

On 2 of my slide toppers, there is a spline like rubber or plastic coming out of the the end where the topper rolls up. Is this normal and should I be concerned? How do I get this back in? I'm guessing it is what holds the material for the topper in place.

It appears to slowly be getting longer when the slide is out and I have noticed it on another slide as well.

Yes you should be concerned. And yes, it is what holds the awning fabric in place.

To get it back in you have to un roll the topper the whole way then pin the torsion tube from moving. There is a hole on each end that a cotter pin can slip through. At that point you can try to slide the spline back in. It might go it might not. If it does not you would have to remove the two screws on the rail of the camper then pull the fabric out of the rail and topper. Then slide the spline back in and reinstall the fabric. Not a horrible project maybe 30-45 min per topper.

Thanks for the reply. I think this may be something I'll let be done under warranty. I don't want to tackle that just now.

Just make sure they unroll it the whole way and actually fix it instead of clipping the end that’s hanging off.

I was able to turn the roller tube by hand (a 2 person job), unwinding and releasing tension on the fabric. I then place a long phillips screwdriver through the holes in the end of the tube to keep it from winding back up. With the fabric loose, I then pushed the spline back into the slot.

Make sure you put a pan head stainless steel screw in the channel through the bead to prevent it from coming out again.
