Adding a Bed Camera to View My Hitch

I'm running an Anderson ball hitch with my 321MK High Country and have real problems lining it up with the hitch ball when I am by myself. Has anyone mounted a rear view camera on the back of their cab so they can see their hitch? Amazon has one that is highly reviewed and I think I can wire it to my rear courtesy lamp that can be turned on whenever I am either in park or reverse. What do you all think?

Here is the link:

My Ram has one and it is nice, you can get real close but I still need to put my eyes on it to make sure it’s lining up in the slot.

My dodge came with one also. Don't use it often, but it comes in handy when you need one.

When I had a bumper puller I used a camera that attached with a magnet to ease hitching. Now with the Monty I have a line marked on my rear view mirror, a magnetic post that is centered on the forward edge of the truck bed and a white line on the center of the front end of the hitch rig. Just line all three up, insure it at the right height and hitching is easy.

I do the backing up when we hitch and don't need a camera to help. Our old hitch was difficult to see through the back window but our Curt hitch plate sits level in the bed and it does make it easy to connect. Since I am short I have to put the rear seat down as the high backs block the view out the back window. I love this hitch.

Although the Anderson hitch is light enough for one person to remove and reinstall in position, the hitch ball must be precisely located under it and lowered into place. Essentially the same thing as hitching up a travel trailer. For me, I don't see the benefit of such a set up. My hitch gets removed from the truck, maybe once a year at best. I have a (hitch up stick that I made) that I hang from the pin box. I raise the front of the camper until the stick just dangles, remove it and then back up to the camper and align the white lines I painted on the pin box and underside of the trifold tonnoue cover and hitch up in 10 seconds while only looking in the rear view mirror. works like a champ.

The Pullrite version is lightweight and seems to be more forgiving in lining up. Saw it demonstrated at the national rally.

Thanks for the comment, but I really like the way the Anderson hitch pulls. I also pull my hitch out frequently to use the bed of the truck and need to be able to carry it easily. Like it or not, my Silverado does not avail me the privilege of seeing the hitch from the rear view mirror so a camera of some kind is my only choice if I am hooking up without a spotter.

I appreciate everyone's comments and suggestions.

By the way, I watched a video on Youtube and the 2020 Chevy HDs will have the full compliment of cameras that they are currently putting on the 2019 half tons.

Not to change the subject, but have you seen the front end of the new 2020 Silverado 25-3500,s. They are butt ugly. Not sure but the GMC version is much better.

Sorry couldn't`t resist
Since I put a role up Tonneau cover on I have the same problem now with the same hitch. I bought this and removed all the brackets and Velcroed just the camera inside and on the side of the box pointing at the ball and wired it to the tail lights. So when I need it just turn on the parking lights and hang the cell phone on a hook on the dash.
Cheap, not very good reviews but works for my purpose. Wife likes it cause she doesn't have to figure out how to tell me to move to line up....………..https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The Anderson hitch I purchased has a new mod they added to the pin box. It’s a red plastic box that allows for some error in alignment.as you lower the trailer on the ball. I can see the ball from my seat but allowing some error helps
