I asked this question once and the replies were split between the Dyson stick vac and the Shark Rocket. At home I have a Dyson cannister vac and also a Dyson hand vac (great for bugs!). I ended up getting the Shark mainly due to the price difference.

The Shark needs power to run, the Dyson charges.

I brought both (Dyson hand vac & Shark) to Florida and am glad I did. The Dyson hand vac was so much easier to use for bugs and quick clean-ups. We brought about a thousand Asian lady beetles with us and had to suck up several dozen every day.

The Shark did a great job as a vacuum for regular cleaning.

Knowing what I know now, If a person does not have a Dyson hand vac, I would recommend the Dyson stick vac as it converts easily to a hand vac. The Shark also does, but with a cord, and is larger. To take it out as a hand vac for quick clean-ups would be a bit more onerous, especially since it is stored in the back of the bedroom closet. Since I already had the Dyson hand vac, I believe I made the right choice for us.

We had a Dyson that came with SOB. When we moved up to our Montana we kept the Dyson. The Dyson does such a great job we have never used the vacuum that came with our Montana.

My DW swears by our Dyson cordless. She would use it in the S&B but she has a really great Shark for that.

We use the shark rocket and it is a great product. Store it in the space created by removal of the worthless built in vac. Could not believe the amount of crap that came out of the carpet with the shark. Dyson is just too much money for my retirement budget.

We got tired of trying to make the hose reach with our built-in vacuum and bought a Shark Ion Flex with the two rechargeable batteries. It works great and having replaceable batteries, you can have one fully charged while using the other, and swap them when it goes dead.
