As different as night and day! Really makes driving/riding much better. You can actually have a conversation in the cab.

I agree with the above. We had an older Dodge and we couldn't even have a normal conversation in the truck, never mind outside of the truck. Our newer truck made a world of difference. Jim actually now pulls into the driveway and I don't hear him coming.

Have not heard the new Dodge. But standing beside the new Duramax and the new Ford diesels, it is hard to believe how quiet they are. Sound almost like gassers.

Our 2010 Super Duty makes less noise than our Nissan Pathfinder SUV!! Given that I have a "slight" hearing problem, I am amazed that I can actually hear people talking in our truck as we travel down the road!!!

Mine is a bit noisy outside, but when cruising down the highway it's very nice. No problem holding normal conversations and engine noise is very subdued unless working hard. Banks exhaust is a bit louder than stock too, but not by much.

Mine is also very quiet, the truck sits in the garage, when I hit the auto start button, I can hardly hear it running.

And, no smell, my Ford(2006) would stink out the garage in a matter of minutes.

Had an 03 5.9 Cummins, now have a 10 6.7 Cummins. My wife says the new truck is slightly louder than the old truck. With my hearing, can't tell the difference..................

From inside, extremely quiet, at all speeds. No wind noise, no tire noise, very little engine noise. From outside, still pretty quiet, just a little rattle.

The Dodges got quieter when they went to a common rail fueling system. 2003 and newer are the quiet ones. The trucks from 07.5 are even quieter.

Our 2007.5 Dodge with the 6.7L is far quieter than the older 5.9 was but not as quiet as the Ford and GM of the same vintage. Still, very decent quiet. I understand the 2011 version of each of those, Dodge, Ford, GM, are even quieter.

My 97 is quiet.....compaired to a jack hammer! Okay, maybe it's quieter.
The easiest way to explain the difference is the old school way like my truck is the piston comes up and compresses the air and the fuel is injected and creates the "loud explosion" that you hear or the rattling. The new quiet trucks the piston comes up and the injectors squirt a little bit of fuel in the cylinder to start a small "fire" and then it squirts the rest in there to feed the fire. Much less explosion for more quietness.

All of the the new trucks with the common rail fuel systems are capable of up to 7 squirts per cycle. That keeps the noise down but there is a down side. They work at up to 25000 PSI which makes them extremely fragile. Dirty fuel or water will wipe them out at a cost of up to $8000.

I had a Nissan Murano before I went full time. I tested sound levels with an Iphone app in the Murano and my 2010 Dodge at 65 on an interstate. Both vehicles had the same reading.

The most noise I have to deal with is snapping on the hitch before a tow. Of course there's also the whining from DW when passing shopping stops and while this is loud it's also short so not often a problem.

Had a 2010 F-350 diesel sold it and bought a 2011 3500 GMC Duramax. The 2011 is much, much quieter than the 2010, though I also drove a 2011 King Ranch and it too is much quieter than the older diesel, both with increases in power and milage - amazing.

We just ordered a 2011 Dodge 3500 4-5 weeks ago. When we went for the test drive the salesman started the truck and then we did a "walk-around" on the outside as he pointed out some of the exterior features. We could hold a normal conversation without shouting even while at the engine compartment with the hood open. I was amazed at how quiet it was.....especially for a Cummins. Very quiet on the inside too.
