Leak in the intake vent
We have a 2017 Montana high country HM305RL. only when it rains we have a small leak dripping from one of the filtered intakes in the living room. My husband has been on the roof several times taken the cover off and sealed everything he could but it still leaks.
Has anyone else had this issue? Any advice on how and where to fix it?
Thank you!!!!

Some have had problems with the dometic blizzard two piece cover and unused installation holes allowing rain to leak in. Detailed fixes posted on previous posts, try a search. Don’t have them on our rig, but believe fixes included plugging the extra holes and caulking for the cover. If your AC is blizzard, would start there.

Don’t have the same model but our ac unit was not properly centered over the roof opening. Used a mobile service to pull unit replace gasket reposition unit. Took lots of pictures and submitted to Keystone and reimbursed.

We have a 2016 305RL, during walk thru (purchase), CW told me the leak was condensation due to the hot/humid weather, doubted this, later when using the rig we encountered the same leak (low humidity). Our AC's are Dometic. Took back for one of the many warranty problems, finally the tech told me the AC was not installed right. New seal kit ordered, repaired, have not had a problem since.

This seal kit repair did not work on my unit. Replaced the entire unit and that solved the leak problem.

Worth looking at, but generally a bad gasket will leak all the tine, not just when it rains.

If you go to the Dometic web sit they have a fix for that problem or you can find here if you do a surch for A\c roof leaks.

AC Unit Mount: What a Mess
The Roof Openings on my 305RL were not cut in the right place. They were crooked and too large. The AC Gasket didn't make full contact around the openings. For the most part, only half of the gasket actually made contact with the surface of the roof. The rest of the gasket surface was located over the roof openings.
The worst location: there was no contact at all between the gasket and the roof surface along a 5-inch section of the Supply Air roof opening. The gasket was located completely over the opening in that area.... As a result, rainwater was able to leak into the roof opening and the duct. Water also got to the closest lag screw that secures the AC Unit to the Roof. The lag screw was only fastened to the 1/2-inch thick Oriented Strand Board: there was no framing below it. Due to the leak, the OSB softened and the screw just pulled straight out. All four of the hold-down lag screws were rusted.
The RV Roof Specialist that I took it to affixed framing to the roof deck/structure to reinforce the openings and make them a bit smaller (so that the gasket would make full contact with the roof surface). He also installed a metal frame with "up-bolts" (the frame is attached to the interior ceiling). The bolts extend up into the AC Unit base frame. The AC Unit is now held down with nuts and bolts - not just lag screws coming down from the top side.
I just sent a letter to Keystone describing the issue and requested reimbursement for the repairs...

Correction: it was the return air opening
Correction: the roof opening where there was no contact between the gasket and roof surface was the RETURN AIR opening. see attached picture

Following this thread..... we may have the exact same issue with our 2019 HC 331RL. just had it in shop all day yesterday for the exact same fix (still under warranty); too large of a hole in the roof right out of the factory....(2" too large) gasket wasn't even in contact with the roof. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the next rain. "pretty bad when we have to keep our fingers crossed for anything......"

mashth : Sorry for your leak problem. I would have thought by your 2019 unit Keystone would have fixed their ways with the rear AC mounting issues.
Share your experience so others may learn what is happening now. I know it was partly poor gasket contact on many back in the 2016-2018 time frame along with a housing issue permitting water to leak from the Blizzard model AC units.
I certainly do not want to repeat that issue with water leaking in cold air vent again.
Wish you a quick solution.

Steve & Terri Yep that’s pretty much how ours looked.
The roof openings were not oversized just not properly aligned.
Major improvement in air flow also after repairs.
It makes me wonder how often this is the issue when folks complain about their unit not cooling?

I wonder about that and collapsing return ducts. When I first got the rig, the AC hardly worked at all. I found a thread that talked about the return air ducts collapsing near the return air grills. I checked my return air ducts - and sure enough - they had collapsed to about half their normal size. I installed plastic tubes in the return air ducts to expand them to their full size (as recommended by many on the thread) and the AC system then worked fine. When the ducts were collapsed, there wasn't enough airflow through the evaporator coil and (I believe) the coil was icing up. I know another couple that bought a 2018 HC: they found and fixed the same problem.

We had the same problem after about 1 year of use. Took to camping world and they said screws were all rusted. Removed unit, sealed around new screws and reinstalled. Over $400 later it still leaks. At a loss for what to do now. Will never buy a Keystone again and not just for this reason.

Same issue with our 2018 3931fb return air on door side in rear living room. Like previous posts, it is the Blizzard style that has the old reverse clam shell type closure fitting. We removed cover, no exposed drill holes so tightened the existing bolts then put cover back together and added duct tape where the clam shell cover meets as a temporary seal fix until we get the newer style cover. So far so good after several hard rainfalls.

What is this newer style cover you mention above?
Thanks
