Refer Power
I remember seeing a thread that talked about plugging in your refrigerator to an inverter so that it ran on electric while on the road v.s. propane. I have an inverter in my Monty (1500 watt) and I am interested in using it for the refer. I would prefer to keep the propane turned off while traveling.
Does anyone know where the power (110VAC) supply for the refer is? Is there an electrical cord that I can plug into the inverter, or is the refer "hard-wired"?

Remove the plastic ventilated panel on the side of the rig. This is the panel with the small hose sticking thru. On the left side you should find an AC outlet where the frig is plugged in.

If You remove the outside cover You will find that the refer is plugged into a receptacle in there. It would be feasble to run a cord or another receptacle there powered by the inverter. I would look into what the draw is (I don't imagine it's all that much) and maybe upsize the charging wire from the truck to the trailer to maximize amperage. Maybe run the charging circuit through it's own plug and cable to get more juice back to the trailer. Just make sure there is a relay that shuts down the charging circuit when the truck is not running so the inverter won't discharge the truck batteries.

lasater,
You might be interested in an article in the November 2004 TRAILER LIFE. On page 85 and 86 there is a long discussion on this very issue.
It is too long to post here but they do say....
"Use of an inverter to power the fridge while on the road is a good idea that should work fine. An inverter can deplete batteries in a hurry when drycapmped, but while driving, the vehicle engine keeps the power coming and the batteries in a good state of charge. Just be sure you choose an inverter that's rated high enough to meet the fridge's power requirements."......
It is an interesting article discussing this whole issue of traveling with LP.
Good luck and let us know what you end up doing.
