toilet replacement

The last 2 times we have been out when I turn the water on the toilet would not stop running. the first time I flushed about 3 times and all was good for the rest of the weekend. Then 2 weeks later after turning on the water I probably had to flush about 25 times to get it to stop. Thought maybe it was because it was the temp. (COLD) I know I can probably change out the flush valve on the toilet but I'm thinking about just putting in a new toilet. Any suggestions on one that will last and looking for one that when flushing will rinse the whole bowl .

Thanks.

If the toilet is the standard Thetford supplied by Keystone I would seriously consider replacing the entire unit with another option. There are lots of threads on the forum regarding this product and the failures it is prone to.

Ours did the same thing.....replaced with a Dometic 320, end of problem. As stated above, many threads on this topic regarding the original equipment. most resolved by replacing with Dometic.

Dometic offers a couple different styles of toilets, depending on space you have.

As stated above, the only real fix is to change to dometic. Once we did that on our 2010 we never had another problem.

I did a replacement of the thetford p.o.s. With a domestic 320 with the spray hose. Dropped in bolted up zero problems. BEST seat in the house! You WANT the 320 which is an elongated, unless of course your nickname is SHORTY ! I have soooo.... much fun telling that to the elderly couples shopping for a toilet at the depot!!!! Usually the little old lady looks at her hubby and says, “which one ya want shorty”? Anyway one of the best upgrades to do!

Definitely upgrade to the Dometic. I did our upgrade (Dometic 320) before I even used the Thetford.

Gotta ask - does this now Dometic 310/320 series, formerly Sea Land still have the fragile plastic vacuum breaker valve in the back? If so, that needs to be carefully winterized if you live in a cold weather area.

Oh and yes, that toilet is on my getting longer TO DO list, probably later this year.

We have the 310, and it's about 4 years old now. I don't think the valve is all that fragile, but any plumbing part will fail if it has water in it and it freezes. And yes, Dometic has specific instructions about winterizing to prevent damage due to freezing conditions.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like I'll be shopping for a domestic.
It might have been the cold weather. I Thought that I drained my trailer when it did get below freezing but forgot to drain the toilet.

Usually don't have to worry much about that here in southeast Texas but we did have a hard freeze a couple of times.

I fully understand about winterizing and have done it on some sort of RV since 1972. What I meant about the valve being fragile is that I had 2 failures, not due to freeze up on our now gone Titanium, but from poor part assembly where one end popped loose due to regulated water pressure not exceeding 45-50 psig. I may still have the spare somewhere in my RV odds and ends 'junk pile'

+1 on the Dometic 320. We actually got warranty assistance from Keystone and our dealer as the Thetford had failed two times while still within the manufacture's warranty period. Our diligent observations after becoming aware of the products history of failures on this site allowed us to avoid any damage. Added a water shutoff valve behind the toilet at the same time.

Just picked up a 320 this AM along with an adapter kit. The 320 in bone is on sale online for $255 ($216 white). At CW the price was 242.25 and I had a 10% coupon.

Since the thread is about toilets and their replacement please tell me why I should get the sprayer? Is it so if the regular wash doesn't quite get everything?
Someone told me long ago that it was to use to conserve water and not use the regular bowl rinse system. Just asking for information.

There will be times when the regular flush does not get everything. Trust me on this. A sprayer always saves the day.

The sprayer is also good for cleaning, and rinsing out the toilet brush.

PPLMOTORHOMES.COM has the same Dometic 320 Bone w/sprayer for $198.99 and includes free shipping. I have used this company and they are great to do business with. I have no financial interest in them.

That's where we got our Dometic 320 w/sprayer from. $198.99 was what we paid as well. They are good people to work with.

PPL is where i bought mine also. I live close to Houston so i just drove to there place and picked it up fpr about the same price. Only difference is i had to pay the tax. They were very helpful in getting me the right sharkbite connections and cut-off valve.
