3120RL outside grey tank handle location

Exciting day.
We took delivery on our 2019 20th Edition 3120RL.
Our previous 5th wheel was a 2012 3100RL

Yet another request for suggestions/help.

Two of the three waste tank handles are on the "wet" control cabinet located with the hose connection and other controls. The third handle (kitchen?) is accessed outside in front of the wheel and behind a lower side panel. This handle is difficult to operate almost dangerous due to the fact as you pull on the handle your arm is close to getting scraped/cut by the side panel.

You'all have responded with some excellent suggestions. I am hoping someone can come though again.

thanks,
-ed

Some folks have taken a tool to turn sprinkler systems on and off and bent the two prongs in a 90 so then can lay that over the handle and pull from a distance.

Interesting.

I suspect you just push them back by hand?

This one is in the beam. It is just difficult to reach and therefore to operate.

Mine is an older unit, but last summer I installed new valterra vavles and cables on all 3 tanks. My galley tank pull handle was up under the rear slide behind the rear tire and through the frame. You had to be a contortionist to pull it. What I did is bought a 10' long cable and installed the handle in one of the spare mounting holes in the center level up leg. Now all 3 handles are within a few feet of each other and operate very smoothly with 2 fingers

I am planning on installing a electric valve on that valve only

Be aware that cable valves are a breakage waiting to happen. Electrics are nice but electric motors...

Either of these need a manual override feature for that fateful day. However, where your valve is buried and the corresponding manual handle will be, access may not be simple. Note, it will be raining the day the valve fails.

Another fix would be to plumb in a valve downstream from the existing valve. On many trailers you can see the drain line close to the main line and within easy reach for a manual valve.

Anyone have any luck using something like this to extend to reach under the slide?

Ha, they have a 36" one too (reviewing these forums always costs us more $$$):

https://www.etrailer.com/p-TX36HPB.html

My concern with this is while it would be awesome as it would extend past the slide is there is no support for this. So pulling I think would be okay but what happens when you push on these 36" or 11" extensions... I would imagine a lot of "play" and possibly "bending/breaking" the tube/stem or even the plastic valve it slides into.

Has anyone had "bad" issues with any of these extensions? Damage, breakage, etc?

That's a good one and I think I'll get one for mine. I agree it should have a bracket to hold it to prevent damage from bumps.

We have a 2010 that we traded for. Previous owner attached a female threaded PVC fitting to the valve handle with hose clamps. Attached a male PVC fitting to a 4 foot PVC pipe with a wooden dowel inside for strength and a T fitting on the end. When I drain, just thread in the pipe and pull. When done, unthread and stow. Works fine.

Thanks. I’m pissed. Just looked at a 2 year old North Point that has all 3 pulls inside the convenience bay.
Why did Keystone not do this?
Has anyone replaced the rear grey with a cable valve and put the handle inside convenience bay? Seems like a cheap solution that I wonder why it would be overlooked?

Montana Man has the good idea. I did this on my Cougar as the gray vavle was seeping and inside the underbelly tarp. Left the original open added a more handy valve near the "T" where the galley, gray and sewer tank come together. Works great and is very convenient.

Montana 20, Read my previous post. I moved that valve handle to the middle level up leg bracket using a 10 foot long cable. If you can get a cable long enough, I am sure you could put it in the convenience center with the others. You would need a 15 foot or so cable to do it though. That is possibly the reason keystone did not put the valve handle there.

Yes that's exactly what I think needs to happen, I was just commenting that originally I thought it was a location limitation based on how Keystone did it and your solution seems logical but after seeing a "newer" Jayco with it, I know it's doable and makes me a bit mad that "you" have to do it vs it just being done right to begin with. For a few bucks!

Also another thing I've noticed is many 5ers adding additional spray port on the passenger side but Keystone hasn't caught on to that yet... yes you can connect in wet bay and throw hose under the coach but "why"?

Thats funny, As I sit here (while camping) I was just yesterday wanting a water valve on the door side for use when needing water while cooking/cleaning. My unit has water lines to the washer/dryer (which I dont have) right inside the cargo door. Im going to see if I can tap into them to provide a water source for than side. Yahoo another project to do.

yeah some other brand new 5ers have the quick connect spray port connection just right of the door. It's nice for certain things like muddy shoes, golf cart, etc... we even have a porch at our seasonal site that I can spray down (in some videos I've seen guy push it with his finger and it sprays out at him)... just a nice option to have one on each side of the coach depending upon your situation.
