Topper Repair

I just finished waxing the beast and found I had a tear on my big slide topper (material) about 6 inches long starting at the left end and running along the top of the roller. The tear is straight looks like it was cut? Any suggestions on a repair? I am thinking of white or clear duct tape but have doubts if that will hold up? Perhaps I need to simply replace the topper? Appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.

Would etrnabond (sp?) tape work better? It's used for roof repairs and is highly thought of.

I would try some Eternabond. It will stick good and hold up to the elements

There is also a clear, awning repair tape that is available. I am sure I have seen it at camping world. I would be concerned with the thickness of the eternabond tape and the resulting wrinkles that would occur when the awning is rolled up. Would those wrinkles cause problems in other areas as time goes by?? I don't think duct tape would work well either as it usually does not last too well in exposed places that are subject to weather.

Steve,
When I was at my dealer this past week, I saw the awning repair tape that Bingo described. I think that that would be your best bet.

Thanks for the replies: The clear awning tape, I found at camping world but it's design is for the awning. The toppers have, I think, a lot more stress via the pull of the roller keeping them taunt and I think that may pull the tape off as the tear is on a stress point. The Eternabound tape, same concern on it's holding power and also the concern of the thickness too, as well as the price. So...am still trying to decide on how/best to fix or replace.

Steve,
I don't think the eternabond will pull loose, but if you go that route, I would recommend putting a strip the entire length across the awning, so that when it rolls up when the slides are retracted, that the awning material will roll up evenly. An expensive repair though, myself I would try the cheap tape way first and see what happens. Let us know what you decide and how it works for you!!

We used the CW awning tape on our slide topper for about the same length cut as you have and it works great. It's thin enough to not interfere with the operation but strong enough to hold. It's been on since July w/o any problems.

Dick: Thanks for the feedback - that's what I needed some actual experience. I'll order the clear tape from camping world.

Steve,
Don't use the ether bond, been there, done that, did not work well.
I found some clear duct tape, that has cross material, like you would find in shipping tape.
I used it on the flap on the awning and it has worked well.
Where it is the topper, you may want to check this out.
Before you put the tape on, wipe the area down with alcohol to prep.
Not the alcohol you drink!!
Weather has been great in AZ, finally it is cooling down inot the 70's
