Solar Question: No more 50A's after 2000W AIMS Inverter

Question regarding solar on our RV.
We had Solar installed on our Montana, which we love having, however, we have had an issue from the beginning that at first we didn't think too much about, but as we have gone along weve grown more and more suspect that something may not be quite right with the way it was installed. The issue is that our Rig is setup for 50A service when plugged into shore power, but since the solar install we experience the inability to use heavy load appliances such as the coffe pot with say the microwave or even just the living room fireplace by itself without tripping the output circuit breaker located on the AIMS 2000W inverter/charger.
The inverter states that it has an internal automatic transfer switch (ATS) which I had thought should sense power present from the pole and pass that 50A current through to the main breaker panel to supply the circuits as normal and then when unplugged would then switch to the battery bank to supply power limitted to the 2000W rating of the inverter to the main panel.
I called AIMS tech support, but they are saying that the inverter will only allow us to have the 2000W, which seems rediculous to us, but I don't know. Does this sound accurate? And if so, is there a way to wire this thing so that we have the ability to use 50A when available and then switch over to the inverter when we are boondocking?

Thanks
