You are getting close. I am guessing the URL is for a photo that you want to display automatically. If you want it as part of your signature I believe you need to bracket the URL with [img] and [/img] so the source looks like this:
[img]http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/image.php?type=sigpic&userid=23671&dateline=155328 6906[/img]
(Note: this is the fully qualified URL of the picture you uploaded to the forum)

And displays like this:


If you actually want the picture to show as an Avatar (the picture in the left pane under you screen name) then a different change has to be made.

Thanks for the help. I went to alter signature and the brackets are there just like you show. I did not put them there however. Must have done it on its own. Not sure why it is not showing up correctly.

Well I got it to work on my aviator. That is good enough. Thanks for the help!
